Krista
My 8 yr old son suddenly started ticcing in late July and has not stopped since. We are in the process of Doctors appts, but I have been doing a lot of reading (including Sheila Rogers book) and have started him on some supplements. Can anyone give advice on what I am giving and wether the amounts are appropriate. Anthing else I should add? Natural Calm Mangesium supplement 200 mg ( giving for about 10 days now) Fish oil 1000 mg (10 days as well) Taurine 500 mg ( I started adding this yesterday) Thanks for your help. Chemar
Hi Krista have you seen an improvement with the supps you are giving? if so then stay with what you are using till you are consulting with a physician(could up the magnesium tho to 200mg 2X day) if not then consider removing the fishoil and using flaxseed oil instead *some* people seem to tic more with fish oil tho some do just fine on it you may also want to consider adding a pure multivitamin/multimineral with a good representation of B vitamins, or add some methylB12 and vit B6 to start
ilovedogs
Just wanted to add about the fish oil, it does make my son tic more. Eating fish or taking flaxseed oil doesn't seem to bother him, though. Also, on the B6 you can find small 25 mg tablets or 50 mg capsules that might work for you. I find B6 to be very effective at calming his sytem, even more so than magnesium. And, when you choose a multivitamin make sure you check for food colorings, etc. Try to find one that has no preservatives, etc. We don't give a multi. I give my son Vitamin D3, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and magnesium/calcium all as separate supplements. He also takes a few immune enhancing supplements for cold/flu prevention, etc. Welcome to the boards! Bonnie
Autic-GoodRiddance
Hi Krista, My son is 18, non-verbal, Autistic , OCD, prompt dependent, and has developed very severe tics in the last couple of years as well. GABA and Glycine were also suggested by his Autism specialist in addition to the Taurine and Magnesium. I have also discovered that MSM, vitamin E and zinc seem to help as well. He also must hold my hands to "ground" himself(I guess) he does not tic near as much when he is holding someones hands. Deep pressure and joint compression also help as well as scalp massage. Well my "kid" is asleep(first night before 2AM in 10 days)...so I am going to take advantage of this and get some shut eye myself!! Good night and may God bless! giulia
Hello! just wanted to point out that I had my son on Flaxseed oil supp. /magnesium ("attentive child") and he got MUCH worse. Then I got results back for his IgG and he turned out HYPERSENSITIVE to Flaxseed oil, orange (which is in the attentive child wafer) and more things (a total of 11). It wasn't until I removed the items that his life really changed. So I would suggest doing the supplements in conjunction with trying to figure out the root of the problem. Take care Giulia
