Guest Guest_jcandkc
Hi everyone: I read somewhere that 50% with T.S. first started out with eye blinking problems. I was wondering how long after one notices eye blinking than other tics and/or T.S. starts? Is it instantaneous or takes some time. If it took time to develop, was it days, weeks, months or years? Hopefully people will share their story. If enough people share their story, perhaps we can get an "informal" concensus. Thanks. P.S. My daughter has had eye blinking tics since she was 2 1/2. She is now 5. That is all she has exhibited thus far. The neurologist said it was a chronic eye tic. Since this is all she has exhibited this for almost 3 years (off and on - right now off), it is safe to assume she won't get other tics and/or T.S. ? Chemar
hi getting a consensus, even an informal one, will be tough I think .... still...here is our experience...... My son started blinking and rolling his eyes when he was 4yo, at the time that he started preK We took him to a pediatric opthalmologist who dx that he had amblymyopa and astygmatism and prescribed glasses. The eye rolling did abate for a while, although some of his teachers commented on it over the next few years. We didnt notice any excessive eye blinking after he got his glasses. His clearly defined Tourette tics (motor and vocal) were dx shortly after his 10th birthday. We now realise that he probably did have tics before that....occasional noises and jerking with his feet, lots of fidgeting and always tapping things (we even got him some drums as he was always drumming on stuff.....real good drummer too ).......but we just thought this was restless "habits" . Guest Guest_jcandkc
Hi Chemar: Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear the glasses helped in reducing the eye blinking. From your story, I guess just doing the eye blinking thing for a few years does not guarantee that other tics won't develope later on. Of course, it would have been more conforting to think that our daughter might not develope other tics since she has that one chronic motor tic. Atlas, it is what it is. I had a feeling that I was hanging onto false hope. Thank you again for sharing.
Chemar
Oh! Dont lose hope...for many kids without fullblown TS, eye blinking is often the only tic they ever have!!
Guest leslie
My daughter started blinking at age 7. This lasted for 3 months then stopped. Five months later she began with a new tic. She began having quick movements of her head. This lasted for several months and also stopped. After that, she would stop and add new tics every few months. Shoulder raising, stomach jerks, movements in her mouth, nose, fingers, and eye brows. She is now 16. She still has the same tics, but has not added any new ones. They sometimes appear two or three together, and at other times she displays one tic. It is still a mystery to us, when, where, and why certain tics come and go.
