pixiesmommy Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I know about Saving Sammy and am so anxious to read it. Are there any other books that focus on PANDAS at all or even mention it? Thanks! Manda
KeithandElizabeth Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Hi Manda: I know that Healing the Childhood Epidemics by Kenneth Bock and Jenny McCarthy's book on Autism mention PANDAS, but they are not about PANDAS. How did your immunological appointment go today? elizabeth
smartyjones Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I read Freeing Your Child from OCD by Tamar Chansky that mentions it. After reading it, my son doesn't so much exhibit OCD as extreme anxiety. I am now reading Freeing Your Child from Anxiety by her that mentions PANDAS. it's only about 1-2 pages and discusses strep can bring on these behaviors but seems to say in most cases a treatment of antibiotics make the problem go away. it says some cases don't respond and mentions IVIG and PEX as experimental and not widely accepted. I know Bock's book discusses the PANDAS turn on a dime rages. ~Kathy
Ellen Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I have yet to find a book that contains the kind of detailed information and stories about PANDAS that we have all shared on this forum. So I'm hoping that one day one or more of us will be able to write and publish the books about PANDAS that we have not been able to find but are so eager to read. thereishope Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I got that book from the library. When I got it, someone had underlined almost everything in the PANDAS section. You have no idea how much I wanted to find out who had that book before me. Others have said the book "Against Medical Advice" sounds very much like the boy had undiagnosed PANDAS. I have yet had the time to read it. I read Freeing Your Child from OCD by Tamar Chansky that mentions it. After reading it, my son doesn't so much exhibit OCD as extreme anxiety. EAMom Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 You could bribe a librarian to disclose the previously borrowers...or offer to volunteer at the library and hack into their computer system!! Against Medical Advice was great and a fast read. Yup, the whole time I kept wondering if the kid had undiagnosed PANDAS...if it was PANDAS and he was treated (abs/ivig/pex etc) so many years of suffering for that boy and family could have been avoided.
