Kelly is an awesome nutritionist...I highly recommend her!! We have worked with her since Sarah was 3 and she helped us through many rough times.

I went to a conference on Friday to hear Kelly Dorfman. She brought up PANDAS 3 times in a group of 300 therapists, etc.

She is great. If she ever comes to your area - go!!!

Hello Alicia:

What did she have to say about PANDAS? So, I guess these PANDA kids have a lowered immunity with genetic pre-dispositions. We went to see a conventional immunologist recently and he said that we really need to understand what is happening from an immune perspective as well as an allergy perspective because even if we cure PANDAS with IVIG, we are still susceptible for another auto-immune disease 5-10 years from now. What are other peoples thoughts on this?

So, I really want to do some other things (apart from the IVIG that we did and the antibiotics that we are doing) to strengthen my children's immune system.

Thanks for the information.

We started low dose naltrexone in January. The increased endorphins are supposed to strengthen and regulate the immune system. So far, I think its helping.

hi Elizabeth - did the immunologist tell you his take on what was happening from an immune perspective? what were his suggestions?

thanks,

Hi Kathy:

It was a rough appointment because it was pre-IVIG and our son did not want to be in that room.

He did say that just based on the fact that our son was allergic to some things (grass, milk, dogs, cats, weeds) - his body was working in overdrive to fight these allergies. When you add this and the fact that our son probably has a genetic pre-disposition, because we do have auto-immune diseases in our extended family, then you have an environment ripe for disease.

This Wednesday is when the doctor is actually going to give us a full consult. So, if anyone has any questions that you think we should all know in terms of PANDAS and the immune system - let me know and I will ask during our consultation.

I'm going to derail another thread

Elizabeth- what questions are YOU going to ask? We have an immuno appt on Tues and we have similar issues to yours (history of immuno diseases incl. Lupus and Fribro and Pixie never had anything show on blood or skin tests for allergies but alternative MSA sensitivity testing showed dandelions, mold/mildew, caffeine, xanthan gum, etc) so I am in the same boat.

Kelly is fabulous. We have been with her for nearly a year now and I can credit her with all the progress that our 3.5 yr old made. She was THE one who suspected PANDAS just based on symptoms I described. She then asked our DAN! to run blood work to check on strep titers and you better believe it - those came back sky high! We have never seen her (we're in different states) but just do phone consults about every other month (just got off the phone with her now!) I would LOVE to see/ hear her if she's ever in our area (Pennsylvania). So - if anybody is looking for a cutting-edge nutritionist (with knowledge above and beyond) - she is it and VERY reasonably priced!

P.S. By the way, hello to the group! I'm Lena, mom to a newly diagnosed little Pandas bear :() Our son is 3.5 and has been suffering with "medical mystery" symptoms for about a year. Until the recent diagnosis... *deep sigh*
