pixiesmommy Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Returned home earlier from IVIG with Dr K. Pixie had slight headache today with only 15 minutes left to go, so they ran a bit of fluid and ran the rest at 1pm. Headache has gotten worse since 4pm and is an 8.5 on a 10 scale, according to her and she has vomited 3 times. Temp is up to 100.9 with meds, so we put in a call to Dr K and he prescribed some steroids to help. 9pm now and she is resting, but uncomfortably b/c her back and neck are very sore and stiff. The treatment itself was very smooth and he and the nurses were very sweet and answered lots of questions during our 2 days there. Will update again soon.
pixiesmommy Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 She vomited the steroid again right after I posted and we called Dr K again. Her temp is up to 102 and he wanted to take her in to the ER. He said he would call ahead and tell them what to do. I'm home alone w/the baby (who is sleeping soundly upstairs) and I'm a nervous wreck waiting for DH to call. She was in so much pain and could barely walk out the door she was having such a hard time unfolding her body. I'm hoping I did the right thing now with IVIG.... the doubts are creeping in. Has anyone had this happen???
pixiesmommy Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 I feel kind of silly replying to my own replies, but I realize it's late and no one is awake and I'm exhausted.... so.. Dan just called and they are hooking her up to an IV to run 2 hours+ of fluids and the steroid dose that she could not keep down. After 2 hours, the ER dr will re-evaluate and see if they want to keep her longer. They thought about running a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't bacterial meningitis, but luckily between talking to Dr K and him feeling her neck (it was loose "enough") they decided to just run some bloodwork and urinalysis instead (which they said would give them indicators if there is something else going on.) Soooo... poor beeb had to get stuck again with an IV and Dan said the bedside manner left lots to be desired, so she was freaking out pretty good for them, but is pretty calm now, though shivery with the fever and totally exhausted from everything today. Please keep her in your hearts. Thank you Sam and Lynn for boosting me up and keeping me company tonight via phone and email as I struggled with waiting to hear something. So nice to know that if we HAVE to go through this, that we are not alone. Manda

dee45 Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Goodmorning, Hopt things are better with your daughter. Lots of prayers coming your way. Deanna
pixiesmommy Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Fever spiked to 103 and they gave her Motrin, then started to break and the ER sent her home around midnight. She took Benadryl around 1am and slept (fitfully, but slept) through the night until 9am. She is awake, dressed, happy, and says she is feeling mostly better. Headache is a 2, fever is 99.8 (taken right before I dosed her with Motrin again) and drinking water. We just got off the phone from updating Dr K and he feels like maybe it wasn't meningitis but a normal (though extreme) reaction and that she will probably be fine by this evening. Whew!
thereishope Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I'm glad to hear things are on the upside now. Maybe her body was in a state of shock and everything will get better from here.
