Yeast helping tics and OCD

Thanks for the carbon info Jennifer--something else to ask my son's doctor next visit.

Phil,

My son used to have Ovaltine everyday of his life, though only a couple of teaspoons a day. That is quite encouraging about correcting his yeast then correcting other issues!

The fact that your son gets tics from passively watching both TV and computer really does seem like a flicker thing

Has he ever stopped computer games for a whole week? My son never ticced during the computer games (except particular one race car game), but later that day or sometimes it took a couple of days, he woud start. It was creating a 'baseline' of tics of sort.

Not trying to deprive your son of computer, but if you are ever out on vacation somewhere without a computer, it could be good to observe.

efgh,

To answer your question regarding the tv: my son used to get a lot of facial tics (eye blinks and mouth movements) and hand movements too when he would watch television. That definately used to be a trigger. Then sometime at the end of last summer, I started noticing that he would rarely tic from watching tv anymore. Since that time, I've only observed a few tics when he watches tv, and to tell you the truth, I no longer watch him watching like I used to (so I could be missing some, but I guess I've relaxed :) ). Again, I wonder if the difference for him is the lowering of the yeast metabolites (that we could tell from his lab reports) because they did get dramatically lowered around the time he stopped getting tics from tv.

Claire,

That's very interesting about the Ovaltine. Another similarity between our sons' backrounds.

My son still has what he calls "trouble breathing" sometimes. I used to believe this was a tic, because it was more exaggerated than it is now. He used to gasp and gasp and then hyperventilate. It seemed like a breathing tic. Now he just seems to hyperventilate, often in the car. I still can't tell if it happens after he eats some particular thing, but I think it may be related to eating/drinking too. Does anyone else's child experience this?

Phyl that is GREAT news about TV. This is what I am hoping will happen to my son. That correcting the yeast (and mercury) problems will reduce the TV/computer issue.

You are the first person to notice this, though Heather said it might have been true for her son, but she wasn't really watching for it.

You just made my day. I have been looking for hope there (besides my undying optimism and my doctor's expectation), since even yesterday my son saw a little TV and had a reaction. By middle school my gut says it will be just too hard to monitor and restrict without him feeling different among new peers.

Claire,

I really hope that your son (and the other kids working on this) has/have success with this too! I agree there's reason to hope. Having a doctor you trust to work with really makes a huge difference. Also, I wanted to say that I agree with you about middle school and peer pressure. My son is now in 6th grade, first year of middle school. I'm so glad that he was younger when we were experimenting with keeping him off dairy, chocolate, etc. He was so compliant then! Now, I can see it would be a lot harder, but at least those things don't seem to bother him like they used to do. He's still usually good about avoiding food coloring and nitrates, but I know he slips up sometimes.

My son was on Ovaltine for two long years and ever since he started ticcing, I stopped Ovaltine (since I stopped milk, I had to stop ovaltine too!).

Like I always say,my son's tics are most pronounced while watching TV. He gets non stop vocal tics (repeating the sounds of the TV) while watching TV .. without the TV, he is pretty ok...Did your son get vocal tics too while watching TV before?

Don't know if you mentioned somewhere. Sorry about asking again.. which homeo drops reduced your son's yeast symptoms?

Claire

what protocol does your doctor plan to adopt for your son's mercury level? Is mercury level and yeast interrelated? Dr Mercola talks a lot about Chlorella, the mercury magnet!

Jean

Which probiotic (good bacterial) do you give your son? What is HMF? Can you please let me know which homeo drops (the brand of the three kinds) your naturopath suggested for your son for toxicity? What are the supplements that you give him now? Have you started him now on the B complex?

Hi efgh,

How interesting that your son also used ovaltine. Yes, my son also had some vocal tics while watching tv, but they were minor. Mostly they were some quiet "unh, unh, unh" or humming sounds. I'd need to sit close to him hear them, so they weren't so noticeable.

The pleo drops that were prescribed for him were by Pleomorphic. He used pleoFort (this was supposed to get rid of the clostridia overgrowth he had -it did!), pleoPef (this was for Candida parapsilosis) and pleoAlb (for Candida albicans). As I mentioned before, according to the lab reports, my son still has a slightly elevated yeast overgrowth. He is now taking nystatin for it.

I am bumping this for newcomers. The case study that Chemar posted on the improvement of OCD/tics with correction of yeast imbalance is compelling.

Especially for those kids that crave carbs and bread, I consider this worth investigating.

The RAST test and stool tests for yeast showed negative for both my son and me. So I recommend the Great Plains urine test. 913-341-8949. On my invoice, the cost for their "Organic acids test" which showed "elevated yeast/fungal metabolites indication a yeast/fungal overgrowth of the gastrointestinal tract" was $127.

I am reading a bunch on yeast now that I have it as well as my son. Unfortunately, it involves a change of diet. I am trying to sort it all out. I have bought 4 books on it now. I want to investigate Heather's recommendation on Threelac, since she said it requires less of a diet change.

Some non-prescription supplements for it are: Capryllic acid, P-au d'arco (anti-fungal), aged garlic (garlic is okay, but can create body odor), and even echinacea. Plus probiotics. No one states how many mg's of each though, so I still read labels at the store. The capryllic acid bottles vary incredibly though!

I am reading again that so much comes back to the immune system, and I remember Jennifer crystallizing this concept for me many months ago.

My gut says that my son's yeast is much much better and even normal again. I hope I am right, I will find out in June when we retest him.
