AHB900 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hey everyone, once again i am back with a new tic problem. Some nights i tic so bad. My tics include crazy vocal tics (this is usually the only time i get vocal tics), and motor tics. My body goes crazy i tic constantly over and over i spend hours tossing in turning in bed ticing before i fall asleep. This is so horrible i cant stand this anymore. Does anybody know a way to prevent this?
myrose Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Hello and I am so very sorry to hear of your situation. Although these boards have been a godsend thorugh our whole ordeal...they can also at times make me so sad when I read through the posts. Just wondering if you have tried melatonin for your sleep? They usually sell it in 3mg but I would personally cut that tablet in 4 pieces and start at a very low dose. Its all natural. My daughter did acrobats in her sleep! It seemed she never got a peaceful rest in my opinion. It resulted I believe in her mood being so difficult in the mornings. I put her on melatolin for a few months and she actually fell asleep quite peacefully back then. Her mood was also better and she even woke up in the same position she fell asleep in. She would also tic badly even while sleeping. The melatonin worked wonders for her but a high dose would make her wired so start really low if you decide to take it. I stopped the melatonin after a few months and she had been fine ever since. Maybe we re-trained the whole rem mode so to speak. Now we are on a very low dose of topamax to control tics and just a regular multi vitamin (every other day). We also have gone chemical free and make healthy choices as far as eating (except when out or at a party when it seems impossible) My heart goes out to you and I hope you find some relief soon. It seems everyone has success with very different things....Just have to find what works for you....I do know this is challenging and frustrating but hang in there...
AHB900 Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 what you mentioned is not medication correct? Its just a supplement i can find in a vitamin shoppe?
myrose Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 yes melatonin can be found just about anywhere they sell supplements at. Like walmart etc... It will not make you drowsy or anything like that. Its absoulutely not like a sleeping pill or anything like that. Take it about 20 minutes before you are plannign to head to bed. Let me know if it helps.
AHB900 Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 and i assume this is 100% safe? I was reading about it and turns out its only legal in America so there has to be a reason for that
momaw Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 We too have used it for our daughter and it greatly helped her fall asleep. Our DAN dr. recommended it, and he is quite conservative so I believe it to be safe. As always, one must do one's own research though. I have a friend who has started using it to stay asleep, as she would wake up during the night and not be able to get back to sleep. She swears by the time-release variety, saying she sleeps through the night with it. Just be careful about dosage, because with this, more is not better--more can make you sleepless as another poster has indicated. and i assume this is 100% safe? Andy Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 We have used melatonin in the past and never saw any side effects. It is very effective.
