(I've posted this link on the tourettes forum as well.)

From the article:

In this study, published in the July issue of the journal Pediatrics, Davis and colleagues reviewed the medical records of 144 children diagnosed with OCD, Tourette’s, or a separate tic disorder. They also reviewed the records of a larger group of children without the conditions.

They found that children with one of the neurological disorders were twice as likely to have had a strep infection in the three months before diagnosis. The association was even stronger for kids who had more than one strep infection.

Children who had multiple strep infections over the course of a year had a 13-fold increase in risk for Tourette’s.

Very interesting!

And that stat doesn't take into account the kids who weren't diagnosed with strep. I know of so many PANDAS kids who don't show typical strep symptoms, so I wonder if MORE children with one of the neurological disorders actually had strep. WOW!... and so many doctors don't believe in PANDAS!!! ... How bizarre!!

Hey Sunshine!

Hope you can give us a little update on how your son is doing and if you are still following Yasko?

I kind of took a break from it (boys are doing well), but am kind of thinking about getting back to see what's new there.

Hope all is well :(

EAMom, i was a little surprised that the article mentioned skin strep. In a study that I posted on a psoriasis thread, it mentioned that ASO titers didn't distingush the reactive group from controls, so I guess an ASO only would be useless to detect skin related strep?

excerpt, bolding mine

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1734493...ogdbfrom=pubmed

This ELISA showed that blood samples from patients with chronic plaque psoriasis contained significantly higher titers of reactive IgG than samples from age- and sex-matched healthy controls (P=0.0009). In contrast, neither a standard assay measuring antistreptolysin O titers nor ELISAs measuring titers of IgG reactive with protein fractions from Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis, were able to distinguish between blood samples from the two groups. These findings justify the hypothesis that S. pyogenes infections are more important in the pathogenesis of chronic plaque psoriasis than has previously been recognized, and indicate the need for further controlled therapeutic trials of antibacterial measures in this common skin disease.

Hi Kim,

yes, ASO doesn't rise with skin strep. Of course my dd (2 and 3 mo. post FEVER) had both postive skin (perianal) and throat culture and her titers (ASO and dnase) were low both times they were checked. So, with some kids, you don't even get a rise (or you miss it) with throat strep!

Kim,

Hi back!!... It's been a while since I've been here... so much to catch up on!

My son continues to do very well. He could be a poster child for before and after biomed treatments! Honestly, he looks SO much healthier and happier. He is doing well in school, is an outstanding athlete (soccer, skiing, hockey, biking, golf, swimming...) and he has lots of friends. We are thrilled with his continued progress. -_-

We still follow the Yasko protocol, and it's amazing that he is still detoxing!

I'm working full time now, so I spend less time researching than I used to. It's a relief to actually get paid now for all of my work!

Hope all is well with your boys too. ;)

Sunshine,

Wow, I couldn't have hoped to read a better response! Would you mind taking large before and after photos (poster) detailing your sons improvements, treatment plan, explaining the detox program and the genetic findings? Especially, great detail regarding the CBS polymorphism would be really great -_-

Sure understand the remark about work. That must involve getting some of that paper that I used to buy stuff with, lol. The axe just keeps swinging closer to our (currently financially ok) necks here. Economic conditions are still making my job impossible, and hubby is about to get a big whack too, i'm afraid.

I'm wondering if you could comment on what your biggest offender has turned out to be in regards to detox. So curious if you feel that aluminum/strep , was a big piece of the puzzle? With a CBS polymorphism, the mercury connection is (almost) easy to understand, but I'm not sure how alum would fit in that picture?

BTW, my son's ankle no longer has 2 bones (spontaneous absorbtion most likely). I keep telling him that I can "cure" things like that, so keep taking what I tell him to, lol.

He's 16 now, driving, and a total joy. I'm almost lucky if I see him long enough to get just his vits in him some days tho.
