Jean, efgh

efgh--the tics don't appear at the same age, it is quite variable. The overall age conclusions are averages as I understand them. But heavy metal accumulation might average a certain number of years to be at toxic levels.

and no, by no means are all EM doctors also DAN doctors.

Jean,

We don't say 'tic's in our house--we call them 'flinches', always have, always will. I personally don't like the word tic--it is a harsh word.

As for boredom, we just pulled out his old Harry Potter tapes. He has read the books multiple times, but the tapes are still good. Book tapes are great down time--lots are at the library.

I just got back--we got the initial test results back, that is going to be a long post. Or multiple ones!

efgh,

Yes, my son had adhd issues back when he was younger. His teachers were concerned and we did the Connors(?) test for that when he was in 2nd grade. Since we started giving him supplements, and treating his parasites/infections these issues have mostly resolved. In 4th or 5th grade, we did the Connors again for him, and he no longer qualified as adhd. He has a bit of ocd traits, but it's really his brother who struggles more with them.

My son did have a heavy metal test, through our doctor, and thankfully, that did not seem to be an issue for him. His levels of heavy metals were low. I think there are multiple reasons for one's health to get skewed, and they depend so much on genetics and proclivities (ocd, allergies, etc.) that one has. For my son, I think that overuse of antibiotics when he was an infant/toddler affected his gut and allowed parasites, bad bacteria and fungal infections to grow. These not only affected his nutrition, but also produced neurotoxins that affect the nervous system, as I understand it.

Does your son still take any supplements for his tics? If so, can you plesae let me know what they are ..

Does he take a multivitamin? If so, what is the brand and dosage. Most of the good (natural) children multivitamins contain Iron and hence my question.

Is your son almost tic free or does he still have some waxing and waning cycles? My son is doing well overall but he still has some bad (tic) days.

Claire

Do you still give the extra iron to your son?

thanks.

Hi efgh,

Yes, my son still takes supplements, but not so many as before. I give him 5 of Bonnie's ts-plus vitamins/day. Our holistic/environmental doctor wanted me to give him 10/day (he's 106 pounds), which is still below Bonnie's recommendation for his weight, but he and I decided that 5/day would work fine for him. We didn't notice any difference when we cut down the number, and he usually has a pretty healthy diet. He also gets 2 of Bonnie's fish oil capsules/day or the equivalent (300 EPA/200 DHA). He has just stopped taking the nystatin and now we will wait to test for the yeast again after a month. He is away at overnight camp now, but when he left he had a few recent waxing and waning times again. Still not much. I don't know what to suggest for any other iron-free children's supplements. Have you tried Bonnie's? A bottle lasts a long time at 5/day.

Hi efgh,

The oregano oil for my son is in liquid form (though apparently it could also come in a tablet I think). The brand is called Physician's Strength, manufactured in Lincolnshire, Il. He is supposed to put 3 drops of it on to some food and eat that, twice a day. The first time he tried that, he could barely get it down. He likes oregano, but this stuff is unbelievingly strong. It's very penetrating in your nose as well as your throat. So we bought empty clear capsules from the health food store, and put 3 drops in one, twice a day. This way he doesn't taste it at all, and the doctor said that was fine. Our doctor never talked to us about changing his diet (avoiding sugar, vinegar, etc.) so we have never done that. Perhaps that's why this yeast is so hard to beat.

He no longer tics much at all. I guess you could say that it would help tics go away if it worked to kill off the yeast. I think his yeast levels are low enough now that they don't impact tics any longer.

Good luck.
