Just read in braintalk about yeast free diet. Can you please explain that to me. Do you mean the yeast that comes in bread should be eliminated? I am waiting for my inputs so that I can take it forward from there. Do probioitics help in this?? does yeast cause tics? What is brewers yeast and how different is it from the normal yeast that come in bread?

Claire

Are you also trying out yeast free diet?

thanks

You also mentioned in braintalk post that your family went on yeast free diet and it helped tics, allergies etc. Can you please elaborate more on that to me. I am very interested in trying this for my son.

thanks.

Brewers Yeast is what is used in baking bread and is also an excellent supplement, rich in Vit Bs...IT IS A GOOD YEAST!

It is NOT the same as the parasitic yeast, Candida albicans, which can inhabit the digestive tract and other parts of our bodies.

Candida is the bad yeast that needs to be eliminated

It is incorrect to call it a "yeast free diet" ...it is a yeast eliminating diet...ie it is a diet aimed at killing of the Candida yeast......the diet is based on eliminating foods that the yeast feed on ie alcohol, sugars and excessive starches. There are also other foods that Candida thrives on and these are detailed in the book I mentioned on Braintalk......"the Yeast Syndrome" by John P Trowbridge

Caprylic Acid (Capryl by Solaray) is an excellent supplement to take to help eliminate yeast.

Many people get Candida yeast overgrowth from antibiotics use, The good bacteria that would ususally fight the candida are killed by the antibiotics and so the yeast takes over.

Probiotics are excellent in helping to eradicate yeast overgrowth, and to prevent it from returning.

I really recommend that book!

I dont believe that "yeast causes tics or allergies etc" BUT the yeast gives off toxins that are very irritating to our bodies and so set the tone for increased tics, allergies, infections, illnesses etc as the yeast are effectively damping down the bodies immune system etc. Also makes one hyper-reactive to things.

efgh,

I would be really careful about taking away too much without making sure there is an issue first. My son is REALLY down about no wheat--even though we have good tasting alternatives, he just feels so deprived. This is why I waited until we knew for sure before acting on it--after I saw what happened to his attitude when I tested him for no wheat for 3 days in November. Unless your child doesn't notice. For the salicytes, I just won't offer the strawberries and grapefruit juice for a week. The rest he doesn't have anyway.

This has been a difficult week. I read that wheat allergies cause digestive issues, and I didn't think he had any. Now I asked him and he said he has diarrhea at least every other day and has for some time now. He said he told me (I thought it was just that day that he mentioned it).

Odd it hasn't gone away yet.

It makes me wonder what nutrients he hasn't been getting--due to the diarrhea. I may delete this later--kind of personal. So please don't copy and quote this anyone--I know that isn't a habit here, but I won't post on my son on the braintalk board because of how often it happened.

Chemar, thanks for your great reply. Would defntly get hold of that book.

when you said your family went on yeast elimination diet and that it really helped, what steps did you take APART from PROBIOTICS?

thanks.

I bought the book at Borders but it is also available online.

It is impossible to explain the diet "in short" here as it is a very specific program.

That is not the only book that details a yeast elimination diet.....I just found it to be the best :)
