Chemar Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 my son has always found chewing gum to be very soothing and also helpful for vocal tic suppression when required in social settings etc and we even had being permitted to chew it in class built into his 504 accommodations at school here is an interesting article supporting this: http://psychcentral.com/news/2008/09/01/st...e-gum/2859.html
ilovedogs Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 That would explain why I didn't see his jaw tic so much while chewing gum maybe? I saw a drastic reduction in this tic while he chewed gum but I saw it increase while he was eating. I think swallowing food triggered the tic to increase more. Thank goodness for xylitol gum without aspartame, etc. The only reason I was staying away from gum for him was b/c of the additives but we've switched over to xylitol gum.
