Vitamin overload? Cal/mag question

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I put ds on some Neuroscience products starting last month(www.neurorelief.com) and we saw dramatic decrease in his anxiety/OCD on a supplement called Kavinace which has 10 mg of Vitamin B6 and has an amino acid complex which includes Taurine and 4-phenylbutyric-3-acid. It's amazing how much he can control his anxiety now!

We did try another supplement that the naturo put him on which is called Travacor JR and has 5-HTP in it along with more Vitamin B6. His anxiety increased so badly that I had a hunch it was the supplement doing this to him. I took him off it after Monday night and his anxiety started going down by Wed AM. Again, I'm so glad I figured this out b/c the child was truly suffering. Not sure why Neuroscience recommended a product that would cause such side effects but I guess everyone's different.

The naturo also wants ds on enzymes and probiotics. So, I started giving the enzymes this week. Now, I'm seeing a brand new tic(kind of like a grimace that involves the jaw) and I'm wondering what works best for these.

I wanted to try Bonnie's vitamins but she thinks I might be giving too much B6 if I do the TS-Plus control. So, where do I go from here? Ds is complaining about his jaw hurting from this new tic. I don't know if it's from toxins being released from taking the enzymes or if it's environmental, etc. So, here I sit trying to figure it all out and I want to get him on a multi of some sort without overloading him with B6(or anything else for that matter).

Any suggestions? The naturo wants him to take some antioxidants in the form of greens/veggies but again I'm concerned about overload. Also, I give ds the KidsCalm at night so he's getting about 170 mg of calcium citrate daily. I would like to find a better source of magnesium and balance it out properly with calcium. I went to the health food store and they gave me coral calcium for him which has 100 mg of magnesium in the form of magnesium oxide and also has 200 mg of calcium. But, it also has copper in it!!! Arrgghhh, I thought copper was bad for some folks with tics??? Someone please help me clear this up b/c I don't do want to do more harm than good! Thanks!

I'm not going to be much help either, because I'm kind-of in the same boat. I plan to keep son on the intramax until Aug when I have his vit. tested again. If I see some good results I may keep him on it. Anyway I'll try to remember to let you know about the antioxidents, my son was 75% first test the went down to 65% last test. I want to know if the intramax is as good as it claims in the antioxident dept.

I do think the balance between what one takes in as food and what one supplements is important and also the balance of the varying nutritional elements with each other.

When it comes to antioxidants, food really is the easiest and best source as so many fruits and veggies are loaded with them!

the 2nd neuroscience product may have been a bad fit for your child cos of the 5HTP. For some it is a perfect fit and others get mega edgy on it. My son had such tremendous benefit from it when younger but cant go near it now!!

I guess my question is....if the first neuroscience product was working well, why did the doc decide to add another etc?

re enzymes and probiotics...as good and vital as they are for many, some people do seem to react. I still firmly feel the best probiotics are the natural ones like Kefir.

since my sons Crohns dx he cant take either as they cause flare ups for him
