Jennifer, you mentioned your son had lost most of his vocal tics - for how long did he have his vocal tics ? did he have his vocal tics at a stretch? did his motor/vocal tics keep changing randomly?

Jennifer, I just got the floradix liquid calcium and magnesium supplement . What was the dosage that you gave to your son daily? And when did you give (before meals, after - morning or evening??).

One more thing. My son started with headshaking tics 6 months back. he had it constant for 3 months and then started off with vocal and the headshaking tics had gone. But since two days he again started off with the headshaking after 3 full months of break along with the present vocal. Is it normal or does that mean there is some additional trigger going on ???

Jean,

We started giving our son about 1/2 tblsp. in the morning and in the evening. The company recommends putting it directly onto protein. I just have him eat some protein chicken, eggs whatever and then he takes the oil in a spoon and washes it down with water. According to the company's research it has to be consumed with protein to work effeciently. Have you requested the information packet? It is free and I highly suggest you get one. It has a ton of information about the products and the research behind it as well as a case report of an autistic boy who lost his diagnosis.

Guest,

We did not experience a healing crisis with the oil....this is something we went through months before. At the time we incorporated the oil we had allready been through most of it.

Jennifer,

Thanks for the info.! I did ask for the packet, I haven't received it yet. Has your son experienced "healing crisis" when he started taking the oil? If so, how long was it? Thanks again!

efgh and guest,

Our son's motor and vocal tics have varried greatly, he seemed to replace one with another. When he quit spinning around he started skipping or when he stopped humming and singing all day he would blow raspberries etc. I think it is very common to replace tics with other ones. I think they try to suppress them and then something else pops out in the process. Our son had months when his vocal tics were better then past months, but one thing really remained was a hm hm hm that he would do when watching TV or being read to.

Jennifer, what steps do you consider to be building up your childs immune system, besides the fatty acids? The NMT? Which homeopathic treatments?

I know that my son used to get sick a lot, and now that he is more active--he gets lots of exercise, it seems to make a difference.

I notice that too much homework is almost a sure guarantee that he will get sick. His teacher last year had 4 hrs of standardized testing a day, and asked them to memorize all their states (on a blank map) and state capitals the same week.

Of course he got sick!

This year I will just ask her to give us his homework for that week a month in advance, so he can get a good night's sleep.

Claire,

I think the 2 major things in re-building the immune system are detoxing and diet changes. By reducing the amount of toxins allready in their bodies and the amount they take in the immune system isn't so overloaded and can concentrate on other things in the body.

I may have allready mentioned that we have switched to an organic diet. Allthough I love to bake, I have tried to cut back on that and have encouraged the kids to eat fruit, nuts, cheese etc. when they are hungry. I've been making a trail mix that the kids absolutely love..they eat it non-stop and veggies with dip. In our modern era we have really strayed away from how we used to eat. It is not an easy change, gradual is better. I've got my kids eating raw nuts no salt or anything, something that definately would not have been possible a year ago. I've also learned to re-introduce foods that at one time they may not have liked. I've substituted refined with unrefined.

I give the kids lots of vitamin C and have been using a product from Carringtion labs which is freeze dried aloe vera. Aloe vera has many wonderful properties for the immune system. The powder doesn't have any flavor, I just mix it in juice. The kids don't drink much juice anymore I really push water. Since my 8 yr. old always had cronic ear infections I got into the habit of running him to the Dr. at the first sign of a cold because I knew it would turn into an ear infection and so needless to say he's been on alot of antibiotics, which tear the immune system down. I've gotten into herbal medicine much more and have a variety of herbs I give the kids at the first sign of the sniffles. If you wait till the symptoms are full blown it's harder to kick with herbs. My 3 yr old hasn't had any antibiotics for almost 2 years now and his last cold was extremely mild. Another very important thing is probiotics- not only for intestinal flora, but for the immune system.

Another thing about herbs, you can take some that are immune boosters daily for precationary measures. A very inexpensive and old remedy is good old Apple cider vinigar. I use Dr. Braggs, it's organic and it has what they call the "mother" in it-which is a chain of proteins that is retained because it hasn't been filtered. Apple cider vinigar is a well documented natural antibiotic. I put about a tsp. in some very sweet juice like apple juice and it is really quite pleasant. You want to do this about 2-3 times a day.

And last, but not least I agree with you 100% on rest. Our son missed so many days of first grade- he was sick all the time, but he was also not sleeping well. He still battles sleep issues. Rest is so important, that is when the body goes into repair mode.

Jennifer, how do you give probioitics and what do you give?

Chemar/Jennifer - Is St John's Wort safe for children totally. Do both of you give it for your children and is it mainly for OCD or also for tics? One of my friends who is a homeopath (though not an expert) was casually asking me to try hypericum (9 drops of hyperiforce 4 times a day) for TS (st john's wort) generally and hence I wanted your opinion. I do not want to try anything without total knowledge on that and hence I welcome your suggestions on this usage.

I am assuming hypericum (hyperiforce) is St john's wort.

Jean, good to know epsom salt bath helps. How long it took for you to sense the improvement after starting that. Have you started body bio oil yet?
