Guest Guest_efgh
Jennifer I just tasted the flax oil which I generally give my son. It tastes nutty (which is expected) but a bit bitter/sour. Is it the normal taste (I mean the sourness??).
Guest Guest
efgh, My son doesn't have Vocal tics. Therefore, his doctor doesn't think that he is having TS. I would like to help his TICs though. I'll write you more about what I did to follow Feigngold diet later as I'm at work now. Chemar, Thanks for the info.! My son also takes shower daily but I decided to give him the bath after his shower. Sorry, I have to ask you again. What size of the cup that you use? Thx, J
Guest Jean
BTW, I have noticed that my son "moves" or "jumps" sometimes during his sleep. Does any of you have such experience with your child?
Guest Jean
Jennifier, Where can the fatty acid testing be done? Should I check with my son's pediatrician? I just ordered Body bio blance oil today. efgh, I bought Barlean's flax seed oil that has the Omega6 and Omega3 ratio 1:3 (reverse ratio as Body bio). Guest Jennifer
efgh, Flax oil should not be sour. It should only have a nutty flavor. Just a note about the epsom salt baths- I do them and I have a friend that does them. Dr. Jaqueline McCandless also recommends them- it is widely used among the ASD children. Also flax oil does have both omega 6's and 3's, but the ratios are off. Jean, The fatty acid test needs to be ordered from a doctor. Great Smokies has a fatty acid test they check for 24 fatty acids while Body Bio has one that tests 67. In the info. packet it has a pretty complete expanation of the test. If you are working with a doctor I would have him review the information unless they are allready familiar with Body Bio. The neat thing is that the lab that Body Bio uses is affiliated with John Hopkins- so you know it is very reputable. Jennifer
Guest Guest_efgh
Thanks Jennifer. I was asking since the drug stores lady looked at me as if I was talking in a 'foreign language'. She said the cost of 1 kg is 15 dollars and exclaimed "you want to use it for bath!!? , its exclusively for internal consumption when you have constipation". Being a NOVICE in this field, I thought I would recheck with you experts and get back. Just wanted to make sure I am using the right stuff too . (magnesium sulphate) Jean, Is Barleans' flax oil helping your son?
Guest Jean
efgh, As I mentioned early, I gave it to my son for 2 days, and his tics seemed to get worse (not sure if it's a coinsident). After I read Jennifier's posting, I stopped the Barlean's flax oil as the ratio is way off. I just went to the Whole Food Market during my lunch time today, I couldn't find any flax oil with the omega6/omega3 ratio 4:1. The higest is 1:1. I ordered the Body bio oil from Body Bio today. Guest Jennifer
efgh, Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. You got the right stuff. I'm surprised she had never heard of that before. A lot of the pretty smelling bath salts you buy are just plain Epsom Salts with essential oils mixed in. Jennifer
Guest Jean
Jennifier and All, Do you have any recommendation of the Multi-Vitamins that I should give to my son? He used to take FlintStone. Since they are colored, so I took off the Vitamin from him. I'm looking for the right one for him now. Any suggestion is appreciated! Guest Jennifer
Jean, The multi-vitamins that I give my children are called glyco-bears from Mannatech. They try to use the least amount of synthetic vitamins as possible and the nutrients are in a phytochemical base. There is absolutely nothing artificial. They are a little on the expensive side though. I think you may be able to find some pretty decent ones at the health food store that don't contain artificial ingredients. Guest Jean
Jennifer, Thanks so much for your timely response (as always). I was pretty moody last couple weeks, but I feel much better after I chat with the people here. How is your son doing? It's very encourage to hear the good news! efgh, Speaking of the Feingold Diet, I'm not the member of the program. What I did was to exclude those food that are listed to be avoided. Besides artifical color/flavior, there are no Apples, almonds, and tomatoes, etc. My son eats plain food (i.e., no dressing, steam rice, steam fish, Sandwich with fresh sliced turkey/hams). He seems ok with the daily meals. The hard part is the snack. He is not allowed to have juice (too much sugar), cake, nor candy. He drinks water, Milk or Soybean Milk. He eats plain rice cracker, chips (listed in the Feingold Diet), and cottage chesse as his snack and fresh pear as his fruit. I'll introduce more food after another month. You may want to buy "The Feingold Cookbook For Hyperactive Children" as the reference. I didn't follow the cookbook just because I don't have much time to cook. Hope this helps! Guest Guest_efgh
Jean Your feingold diet sounds good. Most people with tics avoid "DAIRY" for tics too. (that is milk, yoghurt, cheese etc) and it has helped some people. though Feingold program does not suggest avoidance of sugar and dairy.
Guest Guest_efgh
Hi everybody My son loves tomato ketchup esp. Heinz ketchup. no way i can stop him from taking it. I would appreciate any suggestions from you all with regard to this. any tips to reduce his intake is welcome.
Claire
Does anyone know if these sensitivities (e.g. tomatoes) show up on a RAST test? If so, maybe efgh could do a RAST test before eliminating his favorite foods like ketchup. I am trying to get one for my son for wheat for his excema (and candidas too by the way)--for the same reason that he loves it so much.
