Greyhound
I want to try chlorella, but I am worried about prior contamination with mercury, but I have also heard that if contaminated, it won't release it - it will either do nothing or absorb more. How true is this? What 'brand' should I try? And also, is it the same as 'Chinese chlorella'? Along similar lines, what about fish oil? I want to try fish oil that contains sardines and mackerel (the only capsules I can find without gelatin), but I have heard that fish oil can also be contaminated. Any advice is greatly appreciated (and yes, I have already searched the forum, but some posts are old and I'm getting confused, so I'm sorry if these are hugely repeated questions!) Thanks
Chemar
fishoil can be contaminated with mercury if not from a pure source. as my son tics more with fishoil we dont use it so I am not sure which brands are uncontaminated however re your comment about possible chlorella contamination ...... I have not heard such concerns before....chlorella removes mercury from the system and is usually from aquatic sources. I guess marine sources may be contaminated??? we used Solgar brand

I don't know how reputable it is. howeverre your comment about possible chlorella contamination ...... I have not heard such concerns before....chlorella removes mercury from the system and is usually from plant sources. I guess marine plant sources may be contaminated??? we used Solgar brand Solgar do chlorella? I like the Solgar brand and they're sold in a shop near my work. They generally don't use gelatin (although the omega-3 (both fish and flaxseed oils) contain it). I'll have another look to see if they stock it About the contamination, I'd heard that because it binds so well with certain toxins, it was often contaminated while still growing, but I'd also heard somewhere that it wouldn't release that, it would only bind with more mercury, but I wasn't sure. Thanks again EDIT: Just had a look on their website and they contain no gelatin! Yay! I'll visit the shop again. I keep getting funny looks in there because I take *ages* looking round and buying nothing (well, I've bought two things)

Thanks pharmaceutical grade fish oil is suppose to have been tested for mercury. Nordic is one such brand out of Norway.
Greyhound
I've just reaslised - chlorella removes mercury from the gut/bowel, but not from the rest of the system, so surely it's only effective if undergoing 'proper'/full chelation? Chemar
http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/mer...elimination.htm once chlorella begins the elimination of GIT mercury it mobilizes it from other areas to gut for further elimination
Greyhound
Thanks chemar. Everything I read seemed to state that chlorella was effective when used with such and such pharmaceutical method e.g. EDTA (or whatever it's called lol). Chemar
we used chlorella without any EDTA and my son's mercury levels came way down. After the course of chlorella, he was on ALA for a month to mop up any mercury that may have entered his brain. IMPORTANT NOTE!!! because ALA rapidly binds mercury and crosses blood brain barrier it is ESSENTIAL NOT TO USE IT until systemic mercury is right down or else it will carry mercury *into* brain!!! my son was also advised to eat a lot of cilantro as it also helps to eliminate mercury
Greyhound
Don't you get ALA from flaxseed or fish oil? I was going to use cilantro as well, but I heard that that too draws the toxins from the brain too. By the way, would that be fresh cilantro, dried/powdered cilantro or cilantro in capsule form?
