Anyone familiar with H pylori?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Last week I had to have an endoscopy/ conlonoscopy because I have iron - deficiency anemia. I was very surpised to find out that I have gastritis( I have no symptoms) and this was caused by an H pyloria infection. I was prescribed a 2 week course of antibiotics.

My question is - I have read that this can be contaigious and am wondering if my 7 yr. old son could have contracted this from me. His only trigger I have found for his tics is several food intolerances. I assume he has leaky gut syndrome and have been treating it with digestive enzymes before every meal/snack and probiotics. Could this bacterial infection have caused his leaky gut and does he need antibiotics to treat it? I read that it can damage the gut lining!

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mary

Hi Mary

IMO, the two best natural remedies for H pylori are gum mastica and dgl-liquorice root. the former eradicates the bacteria and the latter heals the ulcerated areas of the GIT lining (MUST be the DGL for tho, not the regular)

both are available at The Vitamin Shoppe stores or website

Cheri,

How would I know if my son has h pylori? I am confused about how to handle this. Should I have him see my GI specialist or just treat him naturally myself and assume he has it. I don't really have an integrative doctor. I thought about asking my pediatrition about it as well. If you or anyone knows of an integrative doctor who treats tics in South Carolina I would love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Mary

Mary,

I was pointed to this article by someone on my celiac forum:

http://www.celiac.com/articles/1124/1/Heli...ents/Page1.html

Hope it helps.

Many claim the H pylori celiac connection is a chicken and egg scenario. What came first? What caused what? At any rate, celiacs with H pylori, it appears, can get a missed dx on the celiac according to this article.

Overall, a greater proportion of Helicobacter pylori-negative patients had severe villous atrophy (p < 0.01), while the Helicobacter pylori-positive patients more commonly showed milder forms (p < 0.01).

Regardless of their initial Helicobacter pylori status, all subjects showed marked improvement of duodenal aspects following a gluten-free diet (p < 0.001).

I hope this helps. H pylori does not mean celiac, but it is best to get tested to rule it out at this point.

Hi --

I'm new to the forum and have found all the discussions helpful and some were pertinent to my son's situation. My 10 year old son has tics, moderate I think, which he has had for a couple of years. For the last year, he has has periodic stomachaches, which then lead to headaches, which can last a couple of weeks or more. Lately, for the last few months, it seems his stomachache never leaves him. He describes his pain as dull, in his abdomen. He has just been tested to see if he is lactose intolerant, but I didn't get the results back yet. My sense from looking at the readings as the nurse was taking them was that he was not lactose intolerant. If that is the case, then I still haven't figured out what his causing his stomachaches. Anyone have similar circumstances and what was found in their cases, if anything?

I read in the posting, below, about a "leaky gut". Could someone tell me what that is? Could this be relevant to my son's case?

Thanks very much for your input. I appreciate it!
