Guest heidi
hello, this is my second time posting. I have a dr's appt tomorrow for my 4 and a half yr old daughter who has recently started having tics. This appt is with my regular family dr, but I'm hoping he'll do some of these tests so it will be covered by insurance. He leans holistic, so I may be able to convince him. can you please look over my plan and make sure I'm not missing anything? or correct my ignorance if I get something wrong? i am going to : -ask him to do a blood test...an IGG test for delayed food sensitivity -ask him to do an airborne allergy test (scratch test?) - ask him to test her for lead and mercury levels -ask him to test for PANDAS (she had a sore throat around the time of her explosive onset of tics, we had her tested for strep, not from any knowledge of PANDAS but because she was complaining. it came back negative..could he have missed something?) I joined the Feingold association and am workign toward putting that into affect.(she eats pretty cleanly though, many of the things on the list are our regular groceries), I've bought an air purifier, allergen free pillows, mattress covers in case dust is bothering her, I am trying to limit her screen time ( i think I will claim the tv is broken for a week and see what that does), and am trying to keep things calm in our house. Plus I'm giving her a multi vitamin (dye free) and am giving her epsom salt baths. Am I missing anything to tell/ask my dr tomorrow????? thank so much, heidi
kim
heidi, You might want to print this out, and take it to him for mercury testing. If your Dr. is open to it, maybe he will actually get to the bottom of how to read the results too, wouldn't that be something! Porphyrins lab corp test # (CLIA-certified, Test#120980) http://www.mercury-freedrugs.org/docs/LabC...nformation1.pdf Two other things occur to me. If you are going to put your daughter through a blood draw, I would ask to have her zinc and copper levels tested, and have her measles, mumps and rubella titers tested. If she received her MMR at 1 year, and is due at 5 for the 2nd, odds are very good that she has adequate immunity already. The 2nd MMR, usually given around 5, is not a booster, it is given to catch the 3 to 5% (I'm almost certain that that those are the #'s quoted) of children who didn't have what they consider an adequate antibody response to the first one. The CDC website will confirm this, if you want to look it up. Personally, I would not consider that shot, now, without titer testing (it contains no thimerosal, and never did) if I suspected any type of problem with the immune system. we had her tested for strep, not from any knowledge of PANDAS but because she was complaining. it came back negative..could he have missed something?) Yes, he could have. Was it the quick strep, or a grown culture over 2 or 3 days? Did he do the ASO and anti Dnase blood work? If onset was explosive, it would probably be well worth while to have the blood work done. Good luck tomorrow, please let us know how it goes. Guest heidi
Thanks so much Kim, my doc starts all the vaccines much later...she only had her first mmr this summer....this summer is when her tics started, is that a connection? what do I do about her next set of vaccines. at this point i'm terribly nervous to do anything to her.... I'll let you know how it goes... thanks! -heidi
faith
Kim, sorry, are you saying the second MMR does NOT contain thimerisol and never did? is that correct? If so, why do you say you would NOT get that without checking titers first? Faith
kim
Faith/heidi The first MMR or 2nd MMR never contained thimerosal. I included that in the post, to point out(once again) that thimerosal is not the only concern regarding vaccines. If you read articles closely, it appears that this issue is intentionally confused in some cases. They have tried to make parents think that mercury and concerns about the MMR have both been taken care of, with the removal of thimerosal. I'm not sure if this is truly intentional, or ignorance on the part of reporters. Since there are concerns regarding the MMR, that have nothing to do with thimerosal, it just really made me angry to find out that the 2nd MMR, which the average parent thinks is a booster, is NOT. If you have a child with gut issues to begin with, would it not make more sense to test titers, to find out if the child has adequate antibody levels? Well, that would be expensive, and it's quite profitable to just give a 2nd dose to everyone, since it's a safe as can be, right? So, if you are worried about measles, mumps or rubella and your child has a suspected problem with his or her immune system, I would NOT get that 2nd dose, under any circumstances, without someone proving that my child was one of the low % of kids that didn't have adequate immunity, from the first one. Personally, I will encourage my boys to become very educated in the practice of vaccines. With their history of tics, digestive problems, possible immune system dysregulation, and/or genetic predisposition to impaired detox pathways, I just don't think it's wise to ignore the possible involement here.
