Test results/pills

We received two test results back from Great Plains. They said Andrew has elevated arbinose in the areas of citramalic and arbinose, hippuric is elevated and hydroxyhippuric. Have some of you had similar findings? I am guessing this means overgrowth of yeast in the gut. His red blood cells were normal. I am wondering what supplements to try now for the yeast. Is there ever a correlation with PANDAS turning into Aspergers Syndrome over time? I just wondered because so many of Andrew's symptoms have gone that way with repeat exposures to viruses. Also he is sick again. The compulsive repeat hand movements seemed like they were going away and now he is sick with the flu. I can look forward to this whole cycle repeating itself. I have had no luck keeping him well for the past three months. I have to get back with the DAN DR. but am waiting on more results.

How many total number of supplements/pills do your kids take a day? Do you have trouble getting them to take them? What is the hardest pills to get them to take? Andrew is 5 and he takes 17 pills and the fish oils are the worst. I have to bribe him everyday to get them all down. Now with the yeast report I will have to add something else. It makes me wonder if the penn is worth it if he is getting the yeast overgrowth.

Thanks for your help.

Michele

We had the high yeast with out OAT test as well. We gave lots of probiotics - maybe 6 a day - and we saw an improvement in his symptoms pretty quickly - coincidentally - a lump that had always been on his neck - since 2 - and always got even bigger when he was sick - went down for the first time. For the first 5 months of his illness he was on full dose antibiotics and we did not give any probiotics - I was new to the naturopath way and thought it was risky. Lots I have learned!

My son was also sick all the time early after the PANDAS onset - sick not with normal symptoms - but with tics - when others around were sick. Their immune systems are so weak and any assault is 10 times worse for them - since their bucket it already full. We started to treat the increase in tics as a sign he was sick - and keep him home from school - or just do a half day. We felt it was his body's way of telling us he was sick. We used to do rewards for no tv - or taking pills. Checking off everyday and getting money for following through - then he could get something at the end of the week. He hated taking his pills at times - and sometimes we just let it go for a few days to give him a break - he would notice tics emerge and then ask to take his pills again.

I have never heard of a connection between PANDAS and it evolving into Aspergers.

Sounds like your son actually has symptoms of illness - ie, flu. My son never had any normal symptoms of illness - never a fever, sore throat, runny nose etc. If everyone in the house had a stomach flu - he would have an increase in tics.

Hi Michele,

Try to get whatever supplements iyou can in liquid or powder forms so you could mix it in a shot glass of juice (capsules can be emptied into the juice). You could also bury it in a tablespoon of apple sauce or pear sauce (i pureed my own from canned pears). That is alot of pills so just try to consolidate as much as you can. good luck.
