yogamom
Hi, I am new to the forum, but not new to Tourette's as my 8 year old son was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. We have held off on meds with good results until recently. His behavior was out of control, he was having trouble in school and his tics were getting a little worse. The neurologist recommended Tenex and we reluctantly decided to give it a try. It seemed to help at first but then stopped. As I went up on the dose as instructed by the doctor, it seemed like he was so much more defiant and hateful and almost manic in a way. I was wondering if anyone has had this response from Tenex as I can find anything in the literature and it is usually given to calm kids down, not make them mean. Please let me know if anyone has had a similar experience. yogamom
Chemar
Hi I dont have any personal knowledge of Tenex, but I do know that meds can do what you describe My own son suffered drug induced psychosis from haldol and luvox and the manic episodes continued to occur until we weaned him off the meds. Since then he has never exhibited that psychotic state, even when in waxing phase of tics or OCD seems to be that your mother's intuition is spot on with this
yogamom
Thanks for your input. I believe intuition has guided us throughout this journey and will continue to do so. He is being weaned off the Tenex and already is more himself. yogamom
