tonsillectomyq

Recommended Posts

Asking for a friend.

DS5 has strep related stuttering. ENT recommended clindomycine for rapid clearing and it seems to be doing its job.

DS11 has Pandas diagnosis, recently also diagnosed with Bartonella. ENT recommends that tonsillectomy will cure this child of all issues. What are your experiences with tonsillectomy, and does it really clear ALL problems? This particular child has recently started a herbal protocal for Lyme/Bart and is herxing severely. Really not in a good position for the last six weeks or so.

Thank you for sharing your experiences positive or negative.

Removing tonsils, as you know is a surgical procedure that comes with risks, not to be ignored, as slight as that may be.

I find it really interesting that ENT person is recommending this. This may suggest an understanding of the condition.

I made a mistake and did not do the tonsilecomy. I have not met a mother yet that did not say her child benefited from this procedure. It's surgery and whilst I may feel it is ok, it should be well considered.

T&A definitely helped my son. But I would be very wary of any doctor who claims any specific procedure will cure something as complex as Pans. It shows a lack of understanding of the illness. It also shows a complete ignorance of bartonella. You will not cure bartonella with a T&A. That's absurd. It doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue a T&A. Just don't go in thinking it will be a cure.

If the child is herxing to the point of misery, ask the treating doctor about a pulsing protocol. Herxing is a result of toxins and inflammation. Pulsing means taking the antibiotic (herbal or prescription) for a certain period and then taking some time off to allow the body to detox and reduce inflammation. The pulsing pattern depends on the life cycle of the bacteria or virus you're fighting. Bartonella seems to have a cycle of 3-6 days. So you could take the herbal tincture for maybe 5 days and then take a 2 day holiday to let the body recover. Then 5 days on, 2 days off. Over time, herxing should become less severe with each round of "on" days and each holiday should give you more and more relief. I'm not an expert on bartonella - so I'm using the 5 days on/ 2 off as an example. You'd need to check with the LLMD for this child's specific plan.

Thank you all for your input. Lim, pulsing seems like a good idea. This child and his mom are really miserable!! Although the herx was already discussed with the child's treating physician and he claims the child needs more sleep. But it is impossible to get him to sleep these days!! Praying that he gets better really soon.
