Several Positive R/S, Negative 48h

My dd10 had a + rapid strep last Friday. She takes Aug 400 2xd. She was switched to Azith. On Sunday she developed a fever. Rapid strep Monday +. They did a throat culture and put her on Duricef. Results on culture are negative. How is that possible? I did a rapid strep at home last night....still positive.

Could be a stronger strain. I just tried to find an email from Beth Maloney in regards to a strain with a virus with strep. Will keep looking. Have you tried a combo abx and antiviral?

They have to use different swaps for the rapid and for the culture. They likely did not get a good swab on the one they sent to the culture.

This happened to my son when he was very young. He had three weeks of positive rapids and a neg culture. Ped did not culture after first two weeks of rapid positive because that was enough to give different abx. After third pos rapid he cultured negative. Ped gave us some lame excuse about rapid coming up positive even though strep bacteria was "dead". This was my first child and he was only 14 months old at the time. I believe this was the start of pandas for him.
