trintiybella
my child can handle the minocycline and there is some improvement on it, but the bactrim is a no go...wondering if anyone ever used minocycline alone to treat lyme/bart? thanks
rowingmom
Not minocycline alone. After 1.5 years of rifampin/biaxin (because DD was allergic to bactrim), A-Bart and a couple other things we switched to minocycline / plaquinel / tindamax / malarone / azithromycin. 6 months of that and we were done. Well, all except for Buhner.
ktdommer
A good LLMD knows one abx is never enough to treat Lyme because the bacteria has 3 forms. Most of us have at least one coinfection that may need a different med to treat. Nothing is easy when fighting Lyme. Rifampin would treat Bart. You could read burroscano's treatment guidelines to learn more. also, Horowitz's new book really covers how to treat properly.
red
No single drug can kill bart. It has to be a combo. The 2 best drugs are baixin and rifabutin. Rifabutin has less side effects than rifampin. Azithromycin has shown to be ineffective with bart. Breitschwerdt has said they see early resistance to azith in animals and have move to biaxin as a result.
Dedee
Yes, you usually need more than one antibiotic. We use minocycline, rifampin and cefdiner. Dedee
