Guest
At some point I'm going to need to repaint my bathroom walls because the paints chipping off. Can anyone tell me reasons that I should not use the same paint that's on there? I can't find the company or any information anywhere, and I don't see any warning that the paint contains lead. The paint is by Coast to Coast Total Hardware out of Denver, Colorado. It's semi gloss latex ceiling paint. It appears to be bought in 1993. Laurie in Az
Hi Carolyn, I'm not familiar with that specific paint. Paints usually have VOCs ,petrochemicals, biocides. preservatives, fungicides, and toxic ingrediants in their pigments. They outgas for a long time and can be very toxic. The big paint companies now sell paint without VOCs. You need to stay with white or very pale pastels. As soon as they start adding pigments, it is no longer no VOC paint. The commercial no VOC paints still contain all the other nasty stuff. There are several companies that make paint without all the toxic ingrediants. They are more expensive. The paint that I have used is by Bio shield and is about $40 gal. We slept in the room right after it was painted! No headaches, irritated eyes or nasty smells and it is beautiful. IMHO, after all your hard work, I would go with the non-toxic paint. It would be a shame to add toxins to your home. Laurie
