Irena
Please, help. Our doctor said to be careful with grape seed extract (we are setting off to fight candida again) as it inhibits activity of cytochrome P 450 in a liver. I read it is true http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...p;dopt=Abstract , but how much does it affect those who don't take specific drugs. I did not find the answer whether citrus flavonoids (so commonly added to multis now, it's hard to find a good multi without it) inhibits absorption of nutrients. I do hope if it was, they wouldn't added it to so many formulas (Bonnie's TS plus has it, too). It has obvious advantages. Not only we have it in our multi, but I want to add it to our anti-candida treatment (I'll post our protocol as I would like to know your opinion). I can clearly see that Staś has serious problems with absorption. Only yesterday I realised that all the amino acids that showed to be below the normal range and need to be supplemented are exogenous ones (the full list of them is exactly what Staś tested to need), i.e. those that our body does not synthesises and needs to get it with food. We really eat a very healthy diet and he still is short in everything. We do need to heal his gut. What path I decided to go in respect to this issue I will write in another thread. Any input on the citrus, please?
Chemar
Irena GRAPE SEED extract is very different from GRAPEFRUIT extract, which is what your doctor is likely referring to if he is talking of citrus effects I know people on certain meds are told to avoid grapefruit However, grape seed is NOT the same thing at all and grapes are not members of the citrus family of fruits I may be missing something, but I dont see where that reseach in any way suggests avoidance of citrus bioflavinoids as we find them? Irena
Thank you, Chemar, Of course, I meant grapefruit seed extract, not grape seed exctract. It's just my bad English and the mess I have in my head. It's just that I am so confused and so scared about Staś not absorbing nutrients that I don't want any risk of further decreasing this absorption. And we have a very limited choice of good multis (only NOW's and Solgar's).
