cobbiemommy Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 DS, 14, is going out for the wrestling team. Yeah. After figuring out that he needs to eat something after school but before wrestling, that part of the equation is better. Our problem, he has some serious joint pain... His wrists, ankles, back, shoulders, etc are all painful. Because he is having a tonsillectomy in two weeks, he cannot have any acetamenophin (sp) and because of his age, he cannot have aspirin. I have not given him any Tylenol, but I will if necessary. Is there anything else to give? He won't take an epsom salt bath, although I think it would help a bunch...
rowingmom Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I was going to say Japanese knotweed, but that has to be discontinued before surgery as well.
T_Anna Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Maybe take a break from wrestling. DS15 was wrestling when he fell off the cliff last winter. He came home with ring worm. T.Anna

qannie47 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 oops...missed the end of your post...can u use a topical? There may be ones that don't contain blood thinners.
pr40 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Ananatabloc is an alternative to ibuprofen.check if it can be given before surgery aren't you concerned that he has all these akes and pains in his joints? they can be symptom of a serious auto-immune condition.
Hopeny Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) cobbie I think I recall you are dealing with Lyme. What was miraculous for DD's Lyme pain, as nothing worked and she used to beg me for help, was a compounded low dose arteminisin I buy from our LLD made by Hopkinton pharmacy. DD's pain, after over 1.5 years, went away in about a week after starting this. I tried everything from creams to pills and nothing worked except the arteminisin. Our LLD told me it is very effective for pain. Edited October 24, 2013 by Hopeny

I am very concerned. We have been all over the country trying to get a handle on his health. We have a new immunologist, ENT, and neurologist. He was cleared for wrestling by pediatrician who knows the full medical history. This is the first time that DS has wanted to participate in a sport in his entire life; so after he was cleared by doctor, we let him. That being said, in 9 days, he will have T&A done. He will be out for two weeks and we will see ENT and immunologist in those two weeks.
pr40 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 in my previous post I misspelled anatabloc.
911RN Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 I'm used to them holding Aspirin and Ibuprofen before surgery due to increased bleeding risks but NOT Acetominophen (Tylenol). You can check with your MD but Tylenol does not increase bleeding risks as does Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Usually folks are allowed to have this before surgery.
