New Hip Jerk Tic or Something else?

Recommended Posts

My daughter (7) had her onset of mostly vocal tics with a few motor (eye rolls, mouth movements) back in September 2012.

Eventually she tested positive for lyme on Western Blot (IGM 23, 41). She has never really had any body tics of any kind.

2 days ago she started to jerk her hips as she walked and is also sometimes bending one knee a bit before she does it.

I am not sure if its a tic because when she' sitting she is completely still, unlike other motor tics she's had where they just never stop all day unless she's asleep.

She did start clyndamycin for a tooth infection about a week ago, not sure if that did it.

I'm waiting to hear back from her Lyme doc who is out of the country.

But i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

Maybe lyme joint pain, or medicine caused.

Mostly wondering if it was a tic, wouldnt it continue to make her want to move her hips even while she was seated?

Ugh :(

Doesn't sound like a tic to me but maybe joint pain like you said. Have you asked if she is having any pain. Also could check for vaginal yeast or maybe UTI.... Antibiotics can cause yeast infections. I remember the last time I had a UTI, I was so uncomfortable it probably looked to others as if I was walking funny. I guess it could be a tic, but when my son has a tic it will happen randomly throughout the day and it will intensify during times of stress.

our dd had choreiform movements when walking. it got worse within weeks. one way to know if this is a tic is how it progresses.

so, monitor it.

in my experience, there is no one tic. they come in multiple kinds though perhaps not all at the same time.

It sounds like a tic that is aggravated by her walking motion. Our DS has certain tics when he is walking or standing. And his tics move all over the place... neck, face, abdomen, back, legs, feet, any muscle group can have a tic. We do not know how to resolve his tics.
