qannie47
It seems that my ds is always more symptomatic while on augmentin, Have any of you experienced this? and any theories as to why? My ds has responded to abx but always not until he was off it for a few days...Now, after having ivig and has started a 1 to 2 yr regime, I am concerned that there is a connection between abx/augmentin and a possiblility that they make it worse while on it and the improvement seems to come a couple of days after a course. Am I imagining this?
T_Mom
I have been wondering along a similar line--My d has been on 2000mg of Augmentin and 250 Azithro for months now, her volatility is off the charts at times and I can't help wondering if she is on over load of abx-- Has anyone seen or heard of bad reactions to abx like this? MomWithOCDSon
Could it be that the abx, along with some of the other therapies, are "busting up" biofilms, releasing fresh "nasties" like intracellular strep, etc.? So what you're seeing is the reaction caused by a fresh onslaught of antibodies, being called out to combat the freshly liberated microbes? Has anyone with this sort of response had titers remeasured as these symptoms reappear?
Missmom
Is augmentin considered a biofilm buster? Just curious, I have heard of things like mucinex being helpful in breaking through the biofilm but have never heard that augmentin could do that as well. It would kind of make sense though as to why so many of us need long term abx as opposed to the standard ten day treatment. Those biofilms may take a while to break up. airial95
Also be aware that you can still get strep while on abx. My son has tested positive for strep while on treatment doses of multiple abx (even combinations of abx at the same time!) We always had him checked when we would see things get worse, and more often than not, he was still testing positive for strep (swabs and cultures - he's never had an elevated titer).
