Who prescribes and oversees your abx?

Just curious....which doctor oversees and prescribes your kids abx? Currently our family doc does but doesn't have any previous experience with PANDAS. She's winging it for us until we find our way to a specialist, which has been a longer than expected journey. There are so many different types of specialists that are adept at treating this disorder. (Not that the number if them is great) Please tell me who manages your abx treatment.

DS went to Dr. B. to get advice as to treatment protocol. After seeing Dr. B in person, we did a few follow up phone calls. Once DS got to a good place, we switched to a local internist familiar with PANDAS. She agreed to prescribe ongoing antibiotics based on Dr. B's advice/thoughts. DS's internist runs quarterly labs and prescribes antibiotics. She has indicated that she would be willing to prescribe steroids if they should be needed again. DS still goes to the regular pediatrician for an annual physical and shares copies of labs as an FYI. The internist is out of network, so it's cheaper to do the physicals with the ped. But the ped does not prescribe.

Dr. b is excellent with treating infection and who prescribes out abx. We see other PANS specialists for other treatment.

Local biomed doc who is learning and listening to PANDAS radio. We see ped only for well visits or illness. She prescribes nothing nor has she taken any interest in PANDAS. You'd think after 4 yrs she'd do something. I'd switch if I knew of a good ped who would be open minded. Biomed doc does not take insurance. I submit it and get back 60% of the cost. She does regular lab work too thru quest so its covered.

Our pedi prescribed in the beginning even though they had never heard of PANDAS. They were amazed by the results they saw in kiddo. In the long run, they did not want to do long term ABX, so we started seeing an immuno who is on the PANDAS list as a specialist. We have since found many high viral antibodies contributing to our stalled and regressive journey.

Our LLMD prescribes everything for us - abx, IVIG, etc.

This is a valid question, considering most peds and mainstream neurologists will not prescribe long term prophylactic antibiotics. We have had two sources, Dr L and Dr C in NC. Dr C recently left his hospital practice and is setting up private practice. We hope to go to him for future antibiotics needs, just to have someone more local. The Rx dates are going to run out for both our PANDAS kids in a couple of months, so this is a concern.
