Mag Sulfate Cream vs. Epsom Bath

I have been giving my son Epsom Baths because the lymphatic drainage massage is bringing out more symptoms and the Epsom baths help. My son is also having a mild sore throat off & on and more headaches. I think it is part of the detox process.

Anyways, I am wondering if the Mag Sulfate cream is as effective as the epsom bath? My son is 6.5, so staying in the tub for 20-30 minute each nite is getting more difficult. I just got the creme yesterday and it suggested 1 gram at a time up to 3-4x daily.

If someone is using the creme, is 1 gram equivalent to soaking in epsom bath for about 20 minutes? I understand there is no toxicity with high in take of oral magnesium. I assume this is the same with topical magnesium treatment?!

Thx a million!

Patty,

I've never used the magnesium sulfate cream, but I wanted to respond the your question below. Maybe Chemar can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think too high of magnesium intake could be toxic. However, too much magnesium causes diaherra. If your son gets diaherra from the magnesium, then you should reduce the amount until no diaherra is present. I should also say certain forms can cause diaherra and your son may not tolerate certain forms well. Also calcium balance is important when adding magnesium.

Carolyn,

You are right. Too much magnesium can cause diaherra. However, i read that there is no toxicity with high intake of magnesium because the body excretes what it does not use. The body does not store magnesium as it does with calcium.
