Guest
They do treat adults, and many of the families on this board have had extremely good experiences there. They take insurance and they have both OCD therapists and medical doctors there, who are specialists in PANDAS. They offer both intensive therapy (one or more sessions a day) and traditional, once a week therapy. The Ronald McDonald house is where you can stay for free/very low cost while receiving treatment there. Not sure if it is limited to families with kids or if it is also open to adults. Thanks!!!!! philamom
For the families- did your husband go with you? did he just come for the first few and last few days? thx
lynn
Just wanted to say that I really preferred RMDH to a hotel. I think it is because it puts things in perspective (lots of kids in wheelchairs....) but it also reduces stress immensely. You know you will have simple tasty dinners (and breakfast and lunch are always available to make for yourself too), you know your room is clean and safe, it is a family setting. It was sort of a time out of time for us. DH came too, but there were a lot of families where only one parent was there or they alternated. dcmom
totally agree lynn- about RMH. My dh came for the last session. It would have been better if he was there for the last few, I think.
philamom
Sorry for all the questions - just trying to organize the trip. Is there homework on the weekends? thx again
lfran
We had general homework of working on facing the triggers pretty much as much as we could. The idea is that they can become comfortable in the clinic, and face and address the anxiety, but the real world is still out there. So,yes, we did "homework" on the weekend (and also upon our return home) but it's not 24/7. We had a lot of relaxing and fun times too.
Kathy4Him
Ronald McDonald House is only available to families with children under 18. We stayed at the Hampton by the waterfront. The mgr gave us a deal as we were there for 4 wks. Checked out on weekends to visit family in Orlando and he saved our room which was extra large.
