mar
My dd has horrible teeth with no room for them to grow!! She just went to orthodontist and is in line to have palatial expanders bc of no room in mouth and teeth have no room to grow!! Dd does not have all the tics that ds has had and has and I fear that this will start issues but I fear that there is no choice for her. I will have to ask but from what I have been told she will either have to have multiple teeth ripped out or this. She is my chd with mild tics and nothing like her brother but this scares me. But I know that she needs help with her teeth. She needs them for 6 months. I was thinking of starting when school is out but do worry. I have talked to several parents who have gone through this with their kids and had nothing but the best comments with this doctor but I fear that this will bring on tics!!! I have to help her with her teeth and pray that if doesn't cause adverse reactions!!!? Any Info on these expansions would be helpful?? Mar
Sheila
Hi Mar, Here are some forum links on expanders and tics, and they tend to be quite reassuring and positive. Hopefully your daughter will experience the same. At least you are aware that in some cases there might be a reaction, and you can deal with that if it happens to occur. These links are the first ones that came up for me; you could search "expanders" in "forums" and see what else you find. Please do let us know how things go. Hoping for everything to go smoothly, Sheila http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16586&hl=expander http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20165&hl=expander http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20165&hl=expander http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10160&hl=expander
mar
Sheila Thanks for the links! I am hoping she will do okay. I will start it when school is out and will keep everyone posted on how she does. I think it's good to know. Thanks! Mar
powerofprayer
Mar, My dd, now 10, had a mouthful of hardware last year. She had a lip bumper, the expander and 4 braces on her front four top teeth. The expander was in a total of 8 months ( though we only "expanded" for three weeks or so) as was the lip bumper. The braces were in about 5 months. She had no noticeable increase in any of her tics. Once she finished this phase 1 treatment and everything came out though, a vocal tic returned that we hadn't seen in awhile. At least not consistently. That started around end of November and its still present. I really can't say that the tic is caused be removing all those devices though. ( But the thought does creep into my mind from time to time) I think it's just the nature of tics/TS instead. We are very happy with the result of the treatment. She will need to have full braces once all her baby teeth are out. Good Luck!
