MamaOnAMission
I have been reading that antibiotics can make a sinus infection worse if its a fungal infection. What drugs do you use then. Are there any for a sinus infection that is fungal? I am thinging that this sinus infection is causing all of my child's psych. symptoms. Azith made her more psychotic, and gave her a stuffy nose and flu symptoms. Bactrim, mino, dorx gave her super stuffy nose. I am thinking these things are making her worse perhaps. Any advice? thenmama
I only have a sec to reply but I'm sure others will chime in to give you more detailed info. It'd be an antifungal, not an antibiotic. I'm guessing Diflucan or something along those lines. There are others on the forum who know A LOT more about this than I do and have a whole list of things you can try... there are treatments they use in the nasal passages, etc. I think. Good luck! beeskneesmommy
Are you seeing an allergist/immunologist who is a PANDAS specialist, like Dr. Bouboulis? I can honestly say my son had a simus infection from birth - always had irritation in the sinuses, miserable! He cleared well over a year ago, but not d/t all of the abx. It was the abx in addition to Nasonex daily that did it for him. Also, have you tried steroids? They often help to flush out all of the junk in the sinuses...these things worked for us - it never occurred to me that it might be fungal - I just assumed it was a resistant infection, but they may me worth a try before moving onto fungus concerns... MamaOnAMission
Yes, we are seeing Dr. B. What antibiotics did you use in addition to the Nasonex? How did you find out is was fungal? I was told its very unlikely a baby can have a sinus infection at birth. Why do you say it was from birth? Thanks for the help. starlygirl
Lilly - Ask a doctor to do a nasal culture (they'll swab the sinuses similar to how they swab the throat for a throat culture). My son had a fungal sinus infection for months & his old doctor kept prescribing different allergy medications. We switched to a new ped who took a culture and low and behold, it was a fungal infection all along. He was prescribed diflucan.
MamaOnAMission
I had the appointment already. We go for CAT scan today. I'll do the swabbing at end if month with Dr. B. I guess
JuliaFaith
Last time dr. Had son do Tinidazole for ears/sinuses. Seemed to do the trick at least short term. Seems maintenance is necessary at some point once infection cleared per www.betterhealthguy.com.
