Dedee Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 Since I found out that my daughter was positive for the C677t mutation, I had myself and my other children tested. I tested positive for heterozygous C677t same as my daughter but my son was positive for homozygous C677t. Does this mean that my husband could be positive also since my son has two copies of the mutation or could it still just be from me? I initially told my husband that if I was positive that he probably would not need to be tested but in light of my son's results, now I wonder. Thoughts? Dedee
SSS Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 If you have a child with 2 of the same (my dd does- double A1298c) then that means DH and I both carry a copy of this- the child gets one from each biological parent.
Stephanie2 Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 You could just give him some supplements which support methylation and see how he responds. When my son tested positive (hetero) I tried one of his supplements (which contained TMG and several others) and WOW! It was like all the gears in my brain started moving better than they ever had. I had some auditory processing difficulties which vanished immediately! We also never had my other son tested b/c he responded well to the supplements...
lfran Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Since each child gets one gene from each parent, a homozygous child means that each parent is at least heterozygous, passing on the mutated copy to that child. If any of your other children had NO mutations, then you would know that your DH is heterozygous (that child got one "normal" gene from each of you). If all of your kids are either heterozygous or homozygous, then you know your DH is either heterozygous OR homozygous-- but you don't know which.
