DS16 just started 2.5 cc of LDN (Low dose naltrexone) 4 days ago. 2 days ago, he started stuttering, & felt like air was going through his face and chest. Yesterday, he suddenly got severe low tone throughout his body, and even found it difficult to chew, because he was so weak. Symptoms are better today. Given the fact that LDN is supposed to help the immune system, is it common to get herxing, or could this be a side effect I should be concerned about? Thanks.

We didn't experience any herxing because of the LDN- just a slight uptick in well-being. The herxing just may be co-incidence. 2.5cc sounds like it is a liquid? So I think my idea of investigating what filler was used in the capsule may not apply.

You may want to start with a lower dose, or very slowly work your way up to the prescribed dosage.

Yes, 2.5 cc is liquid, and is the much lower dose. We're working our way up to 4.5 mg capsule, in .5 cc increments (we go to 7.5 cc, and then I guess that is where we switch to the capsules. Most of the symptoms are gone, but he's still quite weak (and totally lets me know it...one more excuse as to why he can't exercise <_< . But, I'm making him do that...just modifying.) Interestingly, during this same time period as we started the LDN, I had run out of NAC, so he was off it for 3 days. May be coincidence, but I documented that, too.

Just one more thought - LDN is supposed to be given just before going to sleep at night. You probably are doing that,

but just thought I'd mention it.

Yes, 10 pm. Thanks.

I hear it "modulates" the immune system down, so unlikely a herx, and much more likely a result of stopping the NAC which can be important for detoxing. By the way, I have heard at least one doc caution regarding long-term use of LDN with lyme, anything regulating the immune system down long-term can be problematic. Sounds like that may be more of a minority view on the LDN based on at least one bad experience the doc had seen, don't know, don't really hear a lot about it either way. This was a long-term caution, nothing a few days of it would cause anything noticeable.

We are now up to 3 cc (started at 2.5), and so far doing ok. I do suspect it is going to be for at least several months. Additionally, his holistic chiropractor was testing him the other day (manual muscle testing), and found that he needed a homeopathic remedy (I didn't know she did homeopathy, too.) He had been refusing to try homeopathy, because we thought he'd have to get off everything else, and he was afraid to do that (afraid he would regress.)

So, he started "fire", and the first night, he slept like he hadn't slept in years. He said that in 3 days, he has had more dreams than he can remember (deep sleeping.) So, we're not sure what's from the "fire", and what's from the LDN, but doesn't seem to be herxing now, and something or something(s) are helping. Plus, we started back on the NAC.
