Chemar
Hi so sorry to hear that you are struggling with OCD and that you suffered bullying as a child. OCD can be genetic, and so if your mom displays it, you have likely inheited the gene. There are over the counter supplements (available even at WalMart) that can maybe help to bring the OCD under control. One is called 5HTP and many people with OCD do find it helpful. If the one you get doesnt already have vitamin B6 in it, it is a good idea to take Vit B6 also. It is also a good idea to take a multivitamin/multimineral every day too. These are not expensive and can really help a lot! Other over the counter suppements that seem to help with OCD are methionine (or the more expensive but very effective version called samE) as well as a B vitamin called INOSITOL Many people find that their OCD gets worse when they eat or drink stuff that has food coloring in it, or those artificial sweeteners like aspartame(Nutrasweet) or sucralose(Splenda) so you may want to try to avoid those, as well as things like MSG (monosodium glutamate) and High fructose Corn Syrup, which are added to many groceries for flavor. they all seem to trigger OCD Another thing that can really help with OCD is called Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), usually done with a psychologist, that helps you understand and control some of the OCDs that are plaguing you Unfortunately, neurologists tend to prescribe medicines for OCD that can sometimes bring side effects that many people find worse than the OCD itself. I hope that helps you some. Please dont feel bad about the behaviors you show as these are very common with OCD, and it certainly isnt your fault!
