Chemar wanted me to post more about the TS camp I was a counselor at. I'm not for sure what you wanted me to post about it, but let me know if this wasn't what you were meaning.

This was my 3rd year as a TS camp counselor. I had lots of fun. I had the youngest girls in my cabin. It's not a camp to do therapy for TS, and we only bring up TS if the kids start talking about it. We went swimming, fishing, to the lake, campfires, crafts, games, team building, etc. I had a lot of fun, and my favorite part of camp was being able to make a difference in the kids' lives. I wish I would have been able to go to this camp when I was a kid.

I ate really bad while at camp, so I'm still recovering from that. I had 3 chocolate milks a day, lots of cheetos, oreo cookies, pretzels, pop, etc. I wanted to be able to eat like everyone else during camp, and when you have all that food right in front of you, it's hard not to eat it. Because I ate this way I developed a really bad stomach tensing tic while at camp (it's gone now). The bad thing is I've had a lot of gas lately, and I'm not for sure why. I'm taking probiotics for yeast. I really don't know the answer to that one. Anyways when I tensed my stomach, sometimes I accidently had gas. That was frustrating for me, but no one cared since it was a TS camp.

Lets see I do have a funny story. One of my girls in my cabin doesn't like bugs, and she had a bug in her hair. A great, big, black bug that stuck to her hair. I don't like bugs either, but I was trying to be brave and flick it out with my pamphlet as I won't touch bugs. It was stuck to her hair though. My co-counselor flicked it out with her hand and it landed on me. I jumped and screamed. You would have had to been there to see it. My issue with bugs isn't OCD, it's the feel of bugs that bothers me. Sensory, not OCD.

Thanks for posting about the camp Carolyn! I have only heard of them but havent ever met anyone who had actually been and so have no idea what they are all about.

sounds like fun :)

Such a pity though about the food :P as it reinforces that even those running the camp dont yet realise that junk food is a big tic trigger! Makes me sad too for all the kids who are unwittingly stuffing themselves full of stuff that is just going to mess up their systems and likely make their tics worse

Have you tried the Candida Clear by NOW for use in conjunction with the probiotics? We are very impressed with it. Your GIT probably has reacted to the "foreign" foodstuffs and will hopefully settle down real quickly once you are cleared of any residual candida and toxins from all that and back on your healthy diet.

Is there anything at TS camp directly related to TS, or is it rather just a regular camp where kids with TS can just be themselves and have fun. And, do you have any problem with mimicing tics of others while there?

I think all this is of interest to any parents with younger kids who may consider TS camp

thanks for sharing and "welcome home" :)

Your welcome for posting about camp.

No, I haven't tried Candida Clear.

No, there isn't anything at our TS camp directly related to TS. It's just a camp for kids whose primary diagnoses is TS to be themselves and have fun. My understanding is that there are very few camps that are like this and most have therapy, etc. We do have a counselor on staff if the kids need some one-on-one time because of behavior issues, etc. I personally like it this way because the kids will bring up TS themselves if they want to. My cabin certainly did. In my cabin we did back massages before bed in a line because I had a few that knew their tics got worse when they had knots in their backs. Another counselor did a relaxation thing with their cabin before bed.

No, I didn't have a problem with mimicing tics this year. The other two years I did have trouble with that. I also came home with a really bad head jerking tic those first two years.
