LNN Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 Ok glutamate experts...this one's for you... I think I get why glutamate in our kids creates excessive excitement and oxidative damage. I get how Gaba and zinc can calm glutamate. But what about glutamine? I've read that glutamine can convert into either glutamate or gaba depending on what's needed. But it seems our kids' brains are already confused when it comes to proper regulation. Is anyone supplementing either glutamine or gaba with positive results? Can anyone expand my very limited understanding of glutamine?

We are using L-gluatamine, at the recommendation of our holistic chiropractor who did muscle testing. As far as I can tell it is not hurting them, but they take so many things, I can't really tell anymore what specifically is helping. We see the doc tomorrow for my youngest. I'll ask him if I remember.
rowingmom Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Hoping to increase our glutathione levels we take NAC (breaks down mucus/biofilm in the gut)(600 mg), l-glutamine (helps heal the gut)(500 mg), and glycine (in the form of gelatine which I put in lots of things I cook) every day or so. I haven't noticed any adverse reactions with DD10 my Lyme/bart kid - although there was a melt down about the lack of a snow day at school today (they had been forcasting lots of snow, and she even wore her PJs inside out to bed to bring on said snow day). She does get some lyposomal glutathione, but I'm not sure how much of that she absorbs. I've been wondering about the glutamate/glutamine thing myself. By the way your chart is wonderful. My LLMD loves you. She can't figure out how I know all this stuff, I just tell her it's the LLM mom on ACN!
