BoyIowa Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 We are about 6 weeks in on Methyl B12 shots. They have given ds more more energy as well as his OCD and tics. DAN told me to wait until 8 weeks in and add GABA and Taurine. Both were supposed to be calming and GABA was supposed to help better with tics (though I think some of his 'tics' are compulsions). Because ds hyperness went up quite a bit after starting B12 and has trouble sitting in school, DAN recommended magnesium glycinate to calm. Supposed to take it twice a day, but not sure how we are going to do that and stay away from abx for 2 hours during the school week. Might have to ask the lady that ds goes to before school if she can give to him just before school. Unless it is going to make him too tired. I am not sure which one, but I believe we were told that if one made tics worse to try to back down the amount. I will have to look through my emails from the DAN. We are starting the magnesium glycinate next week when it arrives in the mail. Will only do the GABA if the first doesn't help. Not extremely comfortable playing guinea pig with my ds, but at least it is more natural than the SSRI's and psychotropic drugs and we can stop without harmful side effects.
MamaOnAMission Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 magnesium worked first two nights and now ocd is back and she is up till 3am every night. i can't seem to get her brain to turn off and go to sleep. will talk to psychiatrist again.
BoyIowa Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 We use melatonin spray at night for sleep, but it doesn't always work. Some nights we have to talk about what is keeping ds up. We bought the books, 'what to do if your brain gets stuck' and 'what to do if you worry too much'. Just started reading them. Ds often thinks about the house burning and loosing all of his stuff. I remind him that it is just stuff and we can always get more stuff. Some nights we discuss the multiple available escape routes in the event of a fire and check the smoke detectors. We only do this about once a month and then remind him that we just did it so we are safe.
