Really Really Scared!

Recommended Posts

I have tourette's syndrome, and I'm really scared. I live with my mother because I'm under 18. We are about to lose our house. I keep hitting the walls , and can't help it. I have coperalia. The neighbor came over and said her kids have to sleep with thier heads covered, and the pictures on the walls vibrate. She went to our landlord. Our land lord said she knows I can't help it but if it dosen't stop we will be evicted. By the way we live in government housing, (HUD). My mother is disabled , hopefully temorarly, because of spinal stenosis, so she can't afford her own place. What can I do about this? I really need answers. Please help me!!! My nurse wants to try me on Haldol, Respordol, or Pemozide. I have had tourette's since I was about 8 years old. I was on clonidine all this time. Then, it stopped working when I hit 13. They found out I had seizures around 8 also, when I got older they couldn't find them and took me off of seizure medicine. It cause withdraws, but most of all made my tourettes drastically worse. What are my options? What can I do? Please, Please help me, and pray for me...

Dear Zach

i am so sorry to hear you are going through this!

PLEASE contact the Tourette Syndrome Association and they will hopefully be able to put you in touch with an advocate who will be able to give you free advice as to your rights in this.

Tourettes is covered by the Disabilities Act and for your landlord to evict you would be discrimination against someone with a disability.

Here is the TSA website http://www.tsa-usa.org and their phone number is 718-224-2999

If you dont get help from them, PLEASE let me know and I will try to put you in touch with someone who can fight for your rights.

I will be praying for you and your mom Zach. Dont be afraid...God is able to do more than you could ever imagine and He cares for you.

Zach, first I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm also sorry about your Mom's condition. It seems when it rains it pours doesn't it? All this stress is probably exacerbating any tics you have. I know I can speak for everyone here that we give you and your Mom huge hugs! What Chemar has told you is perfect - please contact the TSA. In the meantime I know my son, when he's super stressed out, really needs to get exercise - it both gets those endorphins (happy brain chemicals) going as well as gives your body an outlet for the stress. It doesn't cost anything and I think it will really help - just a long walk if you can. Nutritionally, try to stay away from processed foods, especially anything with dyes or artificial sweetners or flavorings - they wreck havoc on tics! Get lots of rest and if you are inclined take some vitamin B12. It is an amazing vitamin to help you with stressful situations. I even carry a gumlet made by Solray that has 1000mcg of B12 for me! But the regular sublingual little lozenges are great too. This vitamin is really inexpensive and very helpful. Lastly - take an epsom salt bath - this really helps with relaxing you and many times Tourettes people (actually lots of people) are magnesium deficient and this gets magnesium into your body quickly - we get a four pound bag at our grocery store for about $2.25. I dump the whole thing in the hot water and my son soaks for 20 minutes - it does wonders for stress and tics. Drink plenty of good water too!

Good luck and I will keep you in my daily prayers,

Giselle
