Can someone tell me what dosage of Prednisone (I assume that's what we're talking about) is used for a steroid burst?

Thank you!

I have heard that if Lyme is a possibility, you want be very careful with steroids. Maybe someone with more Lyme knowledge will comment.

AS far as burst doses, we've used 1-2 mg/kg for 5 days...about the same dose one would get if a child had poison ivy.

Just got off the phone with the doctor. She is prescribing 15 mg for 14 days. Ds weighs 185lbs. Wonder if this will be a fair trial. I am looking to see if his tics improve.

Sounds like too low a dose...1mg/kg would be 84mg.

With our dd, we've just done 5 day bursts. Her mood was worse when she was on the steroids, but PANDAS symptoms improved (OCD, mood) temporarily improved 2weeks later. Dom't remember if tics improved.

My DH also got very irritable on steroids (taken for a lung issue years ago).

Be careful. If your son actually has bipolar, it could get worse. Please watch for that. We were warned about that with my DS, and did not give him steroids until we were 99.9% certain it was not bipolar. Then, I went easy, and had an eagle eye out for it. Also, steroids can make lyme worse. I'm not telling you not to give it to him, but I am suggesting that you keep an eye on this.

YEah...my dd got somewhat aggressive while on pred, but better 2 weeks later. I know bronxmom2's son couldn't tolerate steroids...but he was pandas and did well eventually with IVIG/abs.

Some people get really grouchy/irritable on pred!
