Dean1065 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Our 8 year old 59 pound daughter was recently put on a daily dose of Azithromycin 200mg. She is on a double dose for the week due to a big strep outbreak at her school. After that she will return to 200mg per day. A different doctor has now told us that that she should not be on that dose every day due to liver and other concerns due to buildup of the drug over time. I was hoping others that have experience with Azithromycin could tell me what they know about proper prophylactic dosages? Many thanks!
WorriedDADNMOM Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Our Integrative pedi does 10 days during exacerbation then MWF 200ml or mg. We tried for 2 weeks then had severe outbreak of fever and tics. Did another course and are going to do MWF for longer term. This in conjunction with a whole bunch of supplements. Probiotics are key with LT abx. Hope this helps.

Our dd has been on 250mg/day Azith since 2008 (when she weighed 43 pounds-7years old). She's now about 89 pounds (11 years old) and still gets 250mg every day. Periodically we have even upped the dose to 500mg/day (for up to a month at a time). Our Stanford Univ. (LPCH) immunologist felt that dose would be safe for years. We have had her liver values checked periodically--everything has always been completely normal.
T_Mom Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Our d has been on 250/mg a day for over a year, 75 lbs. no issues thus far.
Dean1065 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 Thank you that is helpful information.
