Good news for young children with TS

Recommended Posts

My 2 boys ages 5 and 7 have had tics for 3 and 4 years. Oh boy have they done just about every tic imaginable. I remember I was soo scared when the tics began. They were horrible. I must say though that they have done outstanding in school. They are very popular and the best players on each of their baseball teams. They are very well behaved and I am so proud of them. Their tics are not as bad as when they first started which is a relief. I always hope the tics will dissappear but I have learned to accept them. I know they have a long road ahead of them dealing with TS but I AM hopeful that TS will not hinder their futures.

How long did they have the tics before they were actually diagnosed with TS? How did they start? Did you have them tested for any allergies? And lastly, how did you get to the point of being okay with it? I feel like my life is over.

Hi TSMom, Hermann and Emily! Welcome! Emily, first of all hugs! Your life isn't over - it definitely is a shocker that you think your child is "perfect" and then they have TS. Guess what? Your child is STILL perfect and just happens to have TS. That's all. It's totally manageable and yes you can help the tics, many times not all but lots of them. But your baby is still your baby. And your child really needs you now. You are going to be more diligent in what they eat (find the allergens), and you're going to find any deficiencies and treat them, you're going to root out any yeast or heavy metals and you're going to learn, learn, learn. It's tough at first but then it will get easier and easier. Come here often, ask all that you can, find a good DAN Doctor or Environmental Doctor and most importantly see all that your child is. He's just a little boy (or girl?) and all the things that make him/her your child are still there. You must see those things now and realise now there's just a little extra. It is hard sometimes but you can do this, you can help your baby.
