JenniferG Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 My dd8 has had the hiccups for 2 days. Just wondering if this could be a tic.
laurenjohnsonsmom Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 If a sneeze can be a tic and can be resolved thought diagnosing and treating the infection(s), even after Sanjay Gupta and others called it a conversion disorder (we showed then where they can ''stick it") why couldn't a hiccup? Coincedently my other daughter had a HUGE manifestation of symptoms last spring after contracting EBV (Epstein Barr). She was already diagnosed with PANDAS previously with a milder onset that was mostly resolved with abx but after the EBV she had wild OCD, Anxiety, irrational fears, both presentations of Anorexia Nervousa, contamination fears, etc. She was never the "tic-er" b-u-t did develop a "hiccup sounding tic" that waxed and wayned for months. So yes, we had a sneezer and a hiccuper!
EAMom Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 My dd8 has had the hiccups for 2 days. Just wondering if this could be a tic. Does she hiccup in her sleep? Do Pandas tics ever continue while sleeping? (Haven't noticed with my kid, but her tics are mild). Do non Pandas people with long term hiccups hiccup in their sleep?
norcalmom Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Our DS's tic stopped when sleeping. And - they can control them a little - alot of kids will go most of the school day with few tics, and come home and have an explosion because they need "to get them out". With our DS, in the beginning he RARELY did it school - teacher thought I was exagerating and silly to be worried (this prior to dx's ) then we had an all day field trip and she was astounded - he could not stop. Also, when playing outside on blacktop and at baseball. Then it just became more and more until he was doing it in class too - although always less in the classroom, and I'd say less when relaxing at home as well. Get him in a new environment or out in the open - whoa!
Iowadawn Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 There has been post IVIG times with ds12 when I have noticed a surge of hiccupping--within the first days following the IVIG. I think I have read (you'll have to look it up) that the control area for this would be in the basal ganglia. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I am just trying to recall what I read when I was trying to see if there could be some connection with the hiccups & PANS. Seems to me that it wasn't a stretch at all that there could be a connection. Dawn
Familyof5 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 my kids hiccup when they are flaring, and never hiccup when they are not flaring. I do believe that hiccups are tics.
