Spent some time researching ideas this afternoon for DDs EBV battle. Using artemisinin for past 3 weeks (now on an off week) but don't see much change one way or the other. Came across Resveratrol and several studies that show it's effective against EBV. Does anyone have any experience? Dosage?

My understanding of Resveratrol is that it is potent antioxidant, and is also used for Bartonella (maybe Lyme.)

S. Buhner, the master herbalist to many, who wrote a Lyme book about herbs-

I read him say he considers it the most important herb, #1 to take, (Japanese knotwood version of it) for bartonella/Lyme treatment.

I picked up some Source Naturals version of it, and it has taken me personally a couple of months to get up to 2x a day, alongside everything else I am doing.

I don't think this is considered an anti-viral herb.

(I could be wrong.)

ETA: Okay, sorry, re-read you said you found studies for it's effectiveness against EBV-

cool.

These were the studies that caught my eye...

Resveratrol inhibits proliferation and survival of Epstein Barr virus-infected Burkitt's lymphoma cells

Inhibitory Effects of Resveratrol on the Epstein-Barr Virus Lytic Cycle

Resveratrol, a Natural Antioxidant From Grapes and Red Wines, Prevents EBV-Associated Lymphoproliferation and Transformation through Inducing Apoptosis http://ash.confex.com/ash/2010/webprogram/Paper30795.html

Was hoping others would be able to say it works as well in people as it does in petri dishes.

We use it for Lyme daily for me and dd10 and think it's great. I notice a big difference when I don't use it. I don't know about EBV though...

Could you elaborate on the difference you feel on it and off? Thanks, Kathy

It seems to be hard to put to words and I think it related to both the resveratrol and cats claw. But, I feel like all my symptoms are just much less while on it and I feel worse overall when I stop. I don't know what it's doing overall except hopefully also killing some lyme. Sorry I can't be more specific than that!

I just pulled out Healing Lyme and it does say that it helps reduce herx reactions so maybe that has something to do with it.

My daughter and I also use Japanese knotweed (the type of resveratrol that Buhner recommends) and cat's claw for lyme. When I started on the two supplements this summer I developed symptoms that I had not had before - sensitive skin (the sun felt as though it was burning me after just stepping outside, anything hitting my skin would feel like I had been flicked with a rubber band and would sting for a while), light sensitivity, and increasing hair loss. These symptoms lasted for approx. 2 months. After 2 weeks of supplementation I developed sore aching muscles, joint pain and increased fatigue (not a fun thing to do to myself over the holidays). After 4 months all of these symptoms resolved. At one point I ran out of knotweed but continued with cat's claw while procrastinating on reordering. I did notice a decline in overall well-being which improved with re-addition of the knotweed. Knotweed definately helps me.

The dosages are listed on Buhner's site:
