cam Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Hello, My story, please read, and give suggestions. NOt sure if any of this is significant, but wanted to list anyway. Daughter was full term but was born with a low birth weight 4lbs 15 oz. Placenta test, no issues. Born with belly button hernia, subsided on its own at 1 year. She had constipation from 1-3 years old. At one time she was on miralax. Now reading the relation between miralax and tics is heartbreaking. Started noticing movement around 1.5 years old which would be flips hands/twist fingers, opens mouth, eyes cross or move , sometimes she sticks her tongue out. However, as she approached 2-3 year range and could talk and explain what was happening. She has a wild imagination and this would only happen when she was thinking/imagining something very exciting like flying, animals, etc. Now that she is six, she explains it as a movie playing in her head. I can say her name and she will stop. So it seems voluntary. She can control it stop it if she wants. But she always says, " don't look, let me dream." At 3 she was tested for seizure (even though I knew it was not), however the testing came back abnormal. She then went to neurologist in Sacramento, CA. At this time I had her taped telling me a story. He immediately diagnosed her with stereotypies saying keep an eye on it. I must also say she is perfectly healthy, strong immune, no learning disabilites, or other health problems that we know of. She constantly complains of joint pain in her knees/calves/foot. She does tire easily also. She gets itchy, but nothing too extreme. She rocks and always has. No family history of tics. Some depression on my husband's side. She likes to play her way/rules/order etc. She is also very picky about her clothing being uncomfortable. I'm not sure I would say this is OCD though. BUT THE MAIN concern is that she is now 6 and within the last month I have been noticing a tic. She will stick her tongue out and stretch her body out. Everything is tight from her head to feet. I have noticed about 5-6 in a row about 30 seconds apart for about 3-5 minutes. Then its over. She says it doesn't happen at school only at home when she is doing something she really doesn't want to. Which sounds about right. Like tonight she had homework and really did not want to do it. Any insight would be great! Thank you!
Chemar Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Hi I don't know much about sterotypies but from what I can gather, it is very different from tics/TS, which are involuntary movements and sounds http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/neurology_neurosurgery/specialty_areas/pediatric-neurology/conditions/motor-stereotypies/ Have you had a second opinion? Does she have any history of strep infection?
