philamom Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 After a year of positive IgM's but negative IgG's on the Igenex Western Blot, my daughter is now positive for both. Is this a good thing? Is the IgM finally working it's way into IgG??
sf_mom Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 I think its a good sign! Here is what I was told over a year ago by one of our Dr.'s. Remember two of my children are serologically negative via Igenex for Lyme. Hopefully, at some point in time they would 'start' to make antibodies to Lyme both IgG and IgM....... Typically towards the end of treatment they would/should convert back fully to IgG. It will depend though.... some individuals will never make antibodies. AND, of course test results should all coincide with symptom resolution. Just yesterday we talked about the winding down process from antibiotic with LLMD and it looks like they may consider using the new Lyme culture test if symptoms return post treatment. I got to see a positive result from the culture test and that was fairly cool. We did discuss the rate of false negative with the tests and it is unclear how reliable it will be at this time. -Wendy

I would love to think we are closing in on the end of treatment, but dd is having so many physical symptoms presently. It's late here for me (ok, not really - but sure feels it)- can you explain what you mean regarding the new test. Is it more reliable in a new case of lyme compared to chronic? What is the rate of false negatives - 20%? Thanks
sf_mom Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 So sorry about all the physical symptoms lately!!!!! They weren't really giving any specifics on the new test other than hopeful that it will be a useful tool. The response was, its too soon. They are just getting a bunch of results in for the first time. BUT, they seemed excited about using it for new patients not on antibiotics (chronic or not) and patients who have completed treatment and relapse post antibiotics. -Wendy

I'm trying to decide whether to take advantage of running it, since dd's off antibiotics. Will be resuming one of the antibiotics shortly. Thanks Wendy!
