Minnesota Mom Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Has anyone else had your child complain about being dizzy during an exacerbation? My son has experienced dizzy spells lasting about two days at a time. The first time it happened my son's gait was off too. I mentioned this to the PANDAS research doctors when we were at our first visit and the thought was it could be hyperglycemia. My son has on three seperate occasions has had episodes of dizziness, nausea, unsteady gait, with these symptoms coming and going for about a week. Any ideas?
JuliaFaith Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 My son has the same symptoms when he is out of breath or just exercising. He is just not getting enough oxygen is my belief. Have read that it is typical with Babesia, pnuemonias, viruses, just to name a few. Have read that if the TFG-b1 is high the lungs are affected. This is one of Dr. S's recommended tests. Also, my son has high hemoglobin and hematocrit levels which can indicate low blood oxygen levels which may be related to viruses. Read about this somewhere - just have the notes on the test result page. Someone more knowledgable may have more info. on this.
sf_mom Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 This was a symptom I had on more than one occasion... dizziness so bad it caused me to fall over. I also had terrible bed spins that caused me to wake .... like I had too much alcohol when I hadn't had anything to drink. I was treated at the time for inner ear infections. I later discovered I had three TIC Born infections, Babesia being one of them and positive titers for 4 viruses. I am also originally from MN. I can not say for sure when I was bitten by a TIC but I was definitely exposed as a child camping, fishing, sailing up north. I would start with a basic viral panel via your Dr. for HHV6, Epstein Bar, CMV, etc. and potentially test Babesia if you haven't already.
JuliaFaith Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 positive titers for 4 viruses Have you had any luck treating for viruses? We are kind of stuck trying to get rid of the 3 my son has been diagnosed with having.

BTW, I've never known hyperglycemia to cause dizziness?? Not sure what would cause PANDAS docs to think dizziness was indicative of that? Blurry vision, maybe with very high sugars but dizinness? Not one of the more common symptoms- thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, blurry vision etc are more common with hyerglycemia.
