marylandmom Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 If you have a suggestion for a yogurt with a good amount of probiotic( there are SO many different names of the probiotics, I would love advice on how to decide) that a PICKY 9 year old will eat please pass it on. She takes zithromax once a week.
Burnell Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 if thats for step DO NOT eat any yogurt. Yogurt contains a strep based bacteria. If its not for strep, you ok. also not enough probiotic in any yogurt for offestting an anti biodic, you want culturelle probiotic at the grocery store.
MomWithOCDSon Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Most yogurt and kefir contain predominantly acidolpholus, which is readily killed off by antibiotics, so the probiotic strains in these products are not going to be very helpful in restoring gut flora unless the yogurt is spaced a good 2 to 3 hours away from antibiotic doses. You'll have better luck with something like Culturelle (lactobillus) or Florastor (sach boulardii) which can survive interaction with antibiotics and doesn't necessarily need to be dosed at extensive intervals from the abx.
