Sweet
I am new here and my son is 9yrs old and he has tics he has probably had them since he was two but at the time I did not know what it was. His tics were really mild but have increased since August and they have not gone away His dad (my husband) also has tics that are really not notible to anyone (he shake of his head lightly and some quickly blinking from time to time). I did not realize he had tics until we were married that how light they are. My husband said no one ever pointed out to him that he ever had tics as a matter fact he only remembers them when he was in high school (but them my husband does not remember his childhood very much). So I have been wondering where my husband inherited it from. I started watching his parents (my in-laws) very closely and I notice my father-in-law closes his eyes very tight and very quickly from time to time (in 16years that I've known him never notice until I started watchin him closely). I also notice my mother in-law clears her throat quite often. She says its allergies. My conclusion is that my husband inherited from his dad and my son from my husband. I just hope that my son's tics diminish soon because he is not happy but I don't know what to do. I brought him to see a Naturopathic but did not see a change. I have an appointment to see a neurologist early November and I have an appointment to see a different Naturopathic mid Nov. Has anyone have had any luck with them? I also have an appointment with a psychologist who comes very highly recommended. He works with people with ocd and tics and shows them how to control it. I don't know much about it yet but the appointment is today. Has anyone ever heard of this type of therapy? I would also like to ask for some advices from parents of children who have had success in controling their tics. Thank you
Chemar
Hi and welcome it does sound like this may be a genetic tic disorder or Tourette Syndrome We do have numerous success stories here, including our own related to my son, who has genetic TS/OCD (see the link below in my signature) http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=687 Just a word of caution that most neurologists tend to say "wait and see" or write a prescription for medications, which can often have side effects that are more bothersome than the tics! We tend to focus more on alternative/natural methods of treatment here. Our administrator has written a book that may be helpful to you http://www.latitudes.org/book.html here is also a thread with links to other helpful info http://www.latitudes...?showtopic=2459 hope that helps get you started
