KaraM Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Hi, I noticed LLM's comment in another post about how sometimes white pimples will show up on the backs of the arms or legs as toxins are released. My mouth dropped when I saw the post, because this has happened to my daughter but I didn't make the connection. (LLM, I always learn something when I read your posts...thanks!) How many others have experienced this. My daughter's have been there for a few months now. How long do they take to go away? Is there something to help? Just regular topical acne cream?? She really does not like them there. Thanks, Kara
Suzan Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 My dd is going through this now, pimples on her arms, legs torso. They seem to last a long time. We just continue with detox and treatment and hope they will stop coming! Epsom Salt baths seem to help dry them out faster. Susan
LNN Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Same here. They seem to last awhile. Epsom salts seem to both make more and dry them out. I try to use a loofah (exfoliation) but the kids get annoyed and say it hurts. The other thing that seems to help - tho it's hard to say there's a direct connection - is a lymphatic massage. Jodie had mentioned it awhile back and I found a place nearby that teaches patients how to do the massages themselves - chemo and diabetes patients who struggle with endema. The kids love it and it does help swelling go down when DS has struggled with colds and/or an increase in CORE/zinc. Insurance covered it (I think) - (2) 30 min visits. The pimples are almost gone. But again, can't say it's due to the massage. Could also be just time taking care of it, or the bentonite clay we started using, or the phase of the moon, the tilt of the earth, who the heck knows. But the massage is worth looking into as an overall way to boost the immune system. Takes about 15 min to do a neck massage. Makes the kids feel pampered.
Iowadawn Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Our PANDAS/Lyme ds12 has always had lots & lots of pimples on the pack of his upper arms. The backs of his upper arms always got very red & "slapped" looking after IVIGS. After a year of lyme & co-infection treatments (after PANDAS) and these are almost gone. After the last IVIG they didn't get hardly red at all. I don't know, but they are almost gone. Dawn
momcap Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 I have these, mostly on the back of my upper arms. I was told it is keratosis pilaris (excretion of keratin through pores). Exfoliating makes it worse. Lotion helps. I never thought about it being from toxins. Maybe I will try epsom salt baths too and see if it is a detox issue for me. My kids have them too. I just thought it was genetic.

I just thought it was genetic. My youngest has this, Keratosis, on the back of the arms, fine bumps- my DH has it too, not me, no one else in the family. Our Ped. at the time said there is nothing you can do- but, I heard fish oil (omega's) help, started to supp her those, and the ones on her legs went away, never to return. Still some fine ones on the back of arms, and I also stopped supp'ing the fish oil, though. Not sure if it would completely eradicate it, but I did think it helped clear some. Just a thought on the KP, which is different than actual pimples. And of course, huge pimples with a horrid large white head on them, like boils, could be staph :-(

Gets worse in the winter with dry skin- better in summer from humidity. Here is good link for how to treat. http://www.medicinenet.com/keratosis_pilaris/article.htm
KaraM Posted October 17, 2011 Author Report Posted October 17, 2011 I guess my dd's don't really look like these images. She doesn't have a raised, red or sanpapery rash. She just has 3 or 4 random white head like pimples. Just on one arm, too. I'm not overly concerned, I was just wondering if others have experience the same thing. Have you looked up pictures of molluscum? My dd's had this too. Susan
Johnsmom Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Ive had kp my whole life. I swear it's from leaky gut. The only time it ever completely disappeared was when I took a probiotic called flora more. Our sons Dan dr told me it was the ingredient N - acetyl glucosamine. There was a small amount in it and it supposedly has some kind of gut healing properties. It lasted about 3 weeks. Along with the softest skin I have ever had, I had the absolute best gut. Even on vacation with tons of bad food the plumbing worked fine. My husband even commented on how smooth my skin was. I came down with a cold and then the good stomach disappeared. I kept taking the probiotic but it never worked again. . Kirkman Labs now makes a supplement with this ingredient in it so I think I will give it a try. For now I get sacylic acid lotion from the dr to help it.
KaraM Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 Susan, you were right. We saw Dr. J over the weekend and he said it is Molloscum Contagiosum. Fot those interested, here is a link: http://www.aad.org/skin-conditions/dermatology-a-to-z/molluscum-contagiosum It's basically a pox virus and apparently quite common and contagious! It will usually go away on its own after 6 months or so (except, of course, in immune compromised people). It is especially common among gymnasts and wrestlers (from the floor excercises). It can also be treated by a dermatologist, treated usually via freezing, like warts. I guess my dd's don't really look like these images. She doesn't have a raised, red or sanpapery rash. She just has 3 or 4 random white head like pimples. Just on one arm, too. I'm not overly concerned, I was just wondering if others have experience the same thing. Suzan Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Susan, you were right. We saw Dr. J over the weekend and he said it is Molloscum Contagiosum. I'm glad you have your answer! I am starting to think it's common in lyme patients, probably immune compromised patients like you said. We must be more likely to pick it up and not be able to fight it as quickly. I hope it does not last long for you guys!! Susan
nicklemama Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Kara- Don't want to alarm you but molluscum frequently spreads. I would not try and wait it out. My good friend used Zymaderm on her kids molluscum and it finally went away. She was dealing w/ it for more than a yr. You can order Zymaderm online.
KaraM Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks. It is spreading already...she now has a few on her back. I am going to make an appointment with a dermatologist regardless, just to get an opinion on how best to treat. I'll mention the Zymaderm. Thanks for your input. philamom Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 My dd10 had this for 6-9 months, maybe longer, back when she was six.
